Light laptop for vid editing. Can it be done?

I am looking for a laptop that is light so that I can take it away with me overseas and on long trips into the centre of Australia etc but that will be able to do video editing in blender. I use blender specifically because I enjoy linux and that is pretty much the only good video editing software available for linux. I won't be doing anything too crazy with my video editing, I just need to be able to put together a max 15 min long video from my gopro in 1080p 60fps.

So the question I have is, are there any ultrabooks that would be up to the task? For example I love the look of the razer blade stealth but Linus didn't exactly give it a roaring review in terms of CPU grunt. Or, will I have to settle for something a bit heavier, like the new razer blade (whenever that comes out) or something similar... I would like to get something with good build quality, I don't want to buy a plastic laptop as this thing will probably go through hell and back on planes and in backpacks.

Thanks for any help.

Both the Blade and Blade Stealth overheat. Avoid them. What is your budget?

At this point I'm not too sure on a budget, I can probably afford around 2500 dollaridoos.

True and Aussieland is HOT

Id get a 13" retina pro if GPU isnt important, but thats just me, tons of pro journalists use them world wide in all sorts of climates and they hold up great

I'd say ThinkPad T450S for that 96Wh awesomeness. 10 hours of battery life at max load

Something with a decent battery life and a trackpad that doesn't fuck up when my palms are sweaty.

I was trying to stay clear of Apple as I don't really like them as a company lol, but I shall investigate a bit further, could be an option to just install linux onto it :P

Do you hate them for any specific reason? like have you ever tried a macbook? MacOS is great, and is so smooth and fast for editing, plus the macbook has great battery life and the metal chassis is great - thats why tons of pro togs use them as their travel companion - also tons of bags/messengers support them fully too

Nope - and ThinkPads never did. The SuperFish thing was almost 3 years ago on certain IdeaPads. ThinkPads are used across nations in the military as the best business notebooks available on the market. Not to mention the X260 and T450S hold the world records for longest battery life. X260 is #1 with 24 hours.

ThinkPads die like all hardware but they are better built than 99% of other notebooks. I highly advice getting a 96Wh T450S or X260 (though the CPU power is lower than a quad-core CPU as the ULV chips are slower and not meant for heavy work). You should also check out the P and W series as well as the T550 series.

Yeah, I know, I had mine for a good 4 years I think. Which is a pretty good run all things considering.

Will do, thanks a lot.

Keep in mind I think it was a 2002 laptop or something, come to think of it I think it lasted a lot longer than 4 years... Oh well, it was good anyway :P

Sure they do shitty stuff too, but I cannot name a tech company that doesnt - honestly you can SJW the whole thing but id rather just pick my choice by the merits of the product itself

Only lasted 4 years or you decided to replace it? Thinkpads are basically tanks and should last a good long long time

heck my parents thinkpad is ancient, and my bros macbook is from 2008 - most high end laptops can easily last 6-10 years if looked after
