No one should buy MSI Nvidia cards this generation

Failed by your standards... Please stop trying to speak for everyone.

I'm not speaking for everyone, but I'm definitely for most when I say their new cooler looks like puke. That  was the general reaction. I think most people dont have cases with windows so they should still sell fine and even those with windows would endure the blasphemy because of EVGA's amazing customer support.

This is nothing more than economics. Low supply + high demand = high prices and MSI cards are in high demand. Blame Nvidia for the rushed launch.

The irony is that AMD is not even directly competing in high end cards.

Yeah.. Feel like there's some confirmation bias happening there. What I will say about their new coolers is that it seems to be polarizing. People either love it or hate it. I've seen plenty of both.

If this prices really outraged people as much as they claim, they would vote with their wallets, and yet they keep selling out.

I hope MSI doesn't pull this crap with their AMD cards too.

I don't understand what you are on about

The Armor card is the cheapest aftermarket card in the UK for the 1070. It has the exact same PCB as the Gaming card, now nobody knows how the cooler on the Armor card will perform, but judging by the much higher TDP 980ti which the cooler is based from, it should sit around 70C comfortably.

Why is this a bad thing? I don't give a fk about rbg lights or fancy backplates. I wanna buy a GPU for an acceptable price and play games, not look at it in my case.

I'm not sure how confirmation bias comes into play here at  all. EVGA's last gen coolers were some of my favorite. If you're implying that I don't like them because it's Nvidia, I think Sapphire's new cooler looks like shit too. A lot of the coolers this generation look like shit. I'm just hoping XFX doesn't fail me since they're my last hope.

Confirmation bias means looking for/being more receptive to evidence that supports your opinion. But for the sake of this thread we should probably just agree to disagree. I really like the new cooler, I've seen lots of other people who like it, but also lots of people who HATE it.

XFX? Are you looking at getting an AMD card? And I agree... XFX always has great looking coolers. Loved my 290X Black Edition Double Dissipation.

Nice. If I were going AMD (I'm getting a 1080), I'd definitely be getting XFX.

Even before I saw Sapphire's new cooler, I was leaning towards XFX because I really liked the look of their R9 200 and 300 cards. Even their HD 7000 cooler looked good to me. IMO, they've mastered the industrial look better than anyone else.

I'd say it looks less 'industrial', and more 'sleek', like Corsair's product used to be before they decided to jump on the RGB/'Gamer' looking bandwagon with everyone else.

When I think Industrial, I think steel, bolts, and rivets.

Yea, I guess sleek is a better word for it. I think their HD 7000 would qualify as industrial though.

The Armor is their least expensive aftermarket cooler and MSI is pricing it at the same level as the Founders Edition. That sucks. I don't care what the cards look like either, they could be covered in swastikas and granny porn for all I care.

That's terrible then, you're going to have a situation like with the Asus R9 290/x using the DirectCUII GTX 780 Ti coolers where heat pipes don't contact the die because the cooler was designed for the larger core? And GM200 is way larger than GP104, sounds much worse than GK110 vs Hawaii.

Why is the retailer only price gouging MSI and not EVGA, Asus, or Gigabyte cards? It doesn't make sense. If this was newegg price gouging they would do it across the entire 1000 series since they can't keep them in stock.

The reason is simple, the market consumer thats into MSI has the money and willingness to buy them off the price gouging third party sellers.

Why is this? I don't know.

MSI's range of 1080 spans the entire price range from what I've seen. There's the Aero, which is "cheap". It's priced higher than the Zotac AMP, but less than the general cost of a 1080 (that being £599, or $861). Then there's the Armor which costs the same as most of the other 1080s, then there's the Gaming X which expensive by 1080 standards at £630 ($905), and then there's the Gaming Z which completely takes the piss at £700 ($1006), nearly a whole £100 more than the Founders Edition.

Basically, the Founder's Edition has just been accepted as the general price of a 1080. Some are slightly cheaper, but if they are it is rarely by more than £20. Asus really take the piss by their cheap blower version being £14 more than the FE.

MSRP means nothing. Why would AIBPs charge less for a superior cooler when the shitty fanboy editions cost a fortune? Blame nvidia

Why blame Nvidia or MSI ? What did they do wrong? Release bad products, afaik not.

If you can't afford it, don't buy it or wait. Am I missing sth here ?

I agree. I don't understand what's upsetting people. The new standard price is $449 and $699. A company is not going to charge less money for a better product.

They threw a price hike in while saying it's not a price hike.

They knew what they were doing.

Retailers could be part of the problem but the manufacturers aren't always innocent either.  If MSI, EVGA, etc. chose to charge more for their cards when selling to retailers like Newegg or Amazon then of course those retailers would increase the price consumers pay in order to maintain their desired profit margin.  So if both manufacturers and retailers inflate prices to take advantage of demand then the cards will cost more than they should.

That doesn't happen for msi since they use a flat plate instead of having the die in direct contact with the copper pipes.

In my other thread the msi armor cards were called "known garbage".

I have 2 1070 armor OC cards on the way. I don't know if I should sell them or what.

I'm not going to find a 1070 under $400 for a long time.

Are they really that bad?

The MSI Armor 1080 shares the same PCB as the Gaming X / Z card, it just has a slightly modified Armor 980ti cooler

So, can we assume that you've taken the cooler off both cards to check that there are no better or different components on either of them?

OK, so no one in the US should buy MSI 1000 series since they jacked their prices up.
