  • Lesson learned of an incident last weekend where the owner of a Tesla Model X SUV crashed into a building

    • Claimed it had suddenly accelerated on its own

  • Tesla issued a statement to the verge that read:

    • "Data shows that the vehicle was traveling at 6 mph when the accelerator pedal was abruptly increased to 100 percent … Consistent with the driver’s actions, the vehicle applied torque and accelerated as instructed."

  • Data-backed information like this is set to become more common

    • Not just by Tesla, but the industry as well

  • Majority of cars sold in the U.S. now have event data recorders, or “black boxes”

    • Most of these don’t record as much data as Tesla does, or send it out

  • Companies like GM are open about their interest in expanding range of data they collect

    • To discuss ways of “re-decentralising” the internet

    • Giving more control to individuals and ensuring more privacy and security

  • Commented that “We’re on the edge of finding that a company can get to the point where actually it will control everything everybody sees,” Berners-Lee said

    • Therapy comes with high risk

  • Doctors testing the therapy, known as IAHSCT (immunoablation and autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation), took stem cells from patients bone marrow and froze them

    • Them injected powerful chemotherapy drugs to destroy the immune system

    • Stem cells were then transplanted back into the body to generate a new functional immune system

  • Results over a period of up to 13 years were dramatic

  • Not one patient relapsing and 70% experience a complete halt in disease progression

  • Leaked Source, a search engine for stolen data, claims it has been passed a humongous dataset by an anonymous party

  • To be clear - Twitter does not believe they have been hacked, and Leaked Source specifically mentions that they believe the information was pilfered via malware infections, not an attack on Twitter’s servers

  • Comes on the heels of a number of breaches at Myspace, tumblr, and others

    • Part of this breach revealed that Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg had allegedly (according to the hackers who targeted him) been using the password “dadada” on 4 or more sites

My TL;DR opinion of the whole deal with Riot Games.

They are in the right in this case, since whoever they are hiring is also one of the faces for Riot.

And sucks that my article didn't make it on tonight's show, oh welp!

Here are the two parts of the WAN show that you can still watch on Twitch. Illuminati confirmed?

On the Riot piece, I wonder.. What if you just give them a smurf of yours? Or what if you just make an account and not play on it? Or play a few games on it?

Or what if you just give them a second account of yours you never did anything on? Can they not hire you, assuming you are a perfect candidate otherwise, on the basis of that you didn't play the game enough? (Or can they not hire you because they think you have not played enough of their game)

That's something that makes me wonder..

And I'm 50/50 on the situation. If I apply it to myself: I post on this forum and another one and occasionally play a game.

This forum's data: I have quite a few shitposts in here, but also a lot of helpful posts or posts relevant to a discussion going one.

Other forum: a lot more good posts, a few shitposts

Games: I could sometimes be a bit salty, but generally it's just non-serious trash talking. BUT in the wrong context it could look like I'm an asshole (I might be one sometimes, but the data may also perceive I'm one always).

Would this data be good or bad for a job: 50/50. Some of it might help me get a job (for example the amount of posts I have somewhat indicate how much experience I have with talking to people and having solve problems, etc.), but some of it will show them I could be a goof sometimes. Is it my own right to be a goof sometimes? Yes, it is. And I would be devastated if me being a goof sometimes stops me from having a job (providing I would otherwise be fit for the job)

At 58:00 Linus says:

Quote

If you are using Chrome to save your passwords, which by the way is really stupid, or Firefox to save your passwords, which by the way is even super stupider because it saves your passwords in plain text...

It does not save your passwords in plain text. Your account names and passwords are saved (encrypted) in logins.json and the keys are saved in key3.db.

key3.db however is not protected by a password by default (that's what setting a master password does) so it is not recommended to use without a master password. There is nothing wrong with using it and a master password though. Everything will be encrypted and safe.

I wouldn't be depressed if that happens. What i do on the net under my nickname is my private business, if they cant accept that is their problem...

When i applied for my current job they asked if i have any social media accounts on the paper, i marked no(and i didnt lied, i wont touch trash like FB, twitter, etc). When got the job and signed the contract they asked why im using a nickname on facebook... They didn't wanted to believe that i literally dont have one. biglol.gif

True, they should judge me based on my resume, my portfolio and the conversation(s) we had. Not on the stuff I post online or how I talk online. That is in my own free time and people should not be spooked into not saying what we want, because we might not get a job because of it.

It's almost like censorship, but in a non-direct way.

Note to self: don't forget to delete you facebook... It's all garbage anyways.

About the Riot story, I think it's wrong to consider monitoring Riot employees' LoL activities as if they were snooping on their facebook or something. They work for the company. They are representing the company in an official capacity. If Luke decided to start flaming people randomly on this forum, calling people cunts and whatever that would have no repercussions on him as an employee?

If you are going to consider league chat to be "social media", then people who work for that social media platform are representatives of it when they use it and so should behave in a responsible way when they use it.
