Why is VGA so bad?

what happened to digital signal either being no signal or crystal clear? And i have tried 4 different HDMI cables and they were under 3metres so signal loss was not a factor

Weird, not sure what's wrong. Might be something wrong with the pins on the GPU. |

By no means am I an expert so yeah... sucks that you can't use the HDMI port and had to go through 4 cables but at least you get what you need via VGA

Where as digital is a bunch of 1's and 0's telling each pixel what colour to be - it's absolute and there is no loss from the original file.

They dropped it because it's ugly. Analogue should be used only for things that are similar.

Linus tech is based in Canada so it's analog. not analogue even though both are accepted by spell checker.

Is vga really THAT bad? Is the latency difference really that bad or a important number? Like, will i have a HUGE disadvantage if i use it?

I have 3 monitors, one is a LG Ultrawide, the other 2 are Dell 1909Wb. The LG Ultrawide is on HDMI, but 1 Dell 1909wb is on DVI, and the other is on VGA. I can tell the difference between the monitor running off DVI and the monitor running off VGA. Also, I made sure that both of the Dell 1909Wb monitors have the same settings, but both remain to look different.

VGA has a number of problems.  First of all, the analog signals are carried over independent paths.  So even subtle phase differences or impedance mismatches can result in optical artifacts.  Secondly, there is no clock signal with VGA, so displays, usually called "multiscan", have to come up with a reasonable approximation of the clock rate, and then sample accordingly -- this inevitably causes jitter.  Thirdly, as another poster pointed out, the connectors are not very robust and pins can easily break.  Fourthly, it basically forces a digital to analog conversion inside the computer itself, and then an analog to digital conversion at the LCD panel.  Requiring more electronics.

 

VGA hung on a lot longer than it really should have, but I suppose there were people who had their reasons for keeping VGA functionality.  Thankfully VGA is now pretty much relegated to the connector scrap-bin of history, with very few new build systems, video cards, or screens even supporting the standard.
