GTX 960 Bottleneck?

TheHa3E

Hello, i have a question, more like a thought. I think my Intel Core i3 2120 is bottlenecking my MSI GTX 960. The card i have is a MSI GEFORCE® GTX 960 2GD5T OC.

I have noticed, that comparing to other people's results mine are not so good. It seems that my CPU is not handling very good games, that i run on my system. Grand Theft Auto V, H1Z1. It might be because the CPU is not handling the games very well, but as i play, the cpu is not overheating, mainly around 55-60 degrees after an hour of gaming, and not over 70% usage mark. In GTA V i have around 30-60 fps on medium settings running on DirectX 10.1, but on DirectX 11 it runs even more poorly. I dont understand, its not like im expecting more, but i mean on DirectX 10.1 it should be atleast have 50+fps. Does any one else have similar problems? I understand that i should upgrade to quad-core CPU, and im saving some money to do it, but i dont think that GTX 960 should run so poorly. Not complaining, atleast i can play the game, lel.

My system spec's are :

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

CPU:Intel Core I3-2120 @ 3.30GHZ

RAM: 2X 4 GB DDR3 @ 665mh

MotherBoard: Gigabyte H61M-S1

Storage: 500 GB seagate barracuda

GPU: MSI GEFORCE® GTX 960 2GD5T OC

The OC i have on the gpu is : +175mhz on GPU core and +300 mhz on GPU memory

PSU: Coolermaster B500 VER.2

GPU Driver version : 365.19

P.S I didn't know in which section to put this topic in, so went in this thread, pls dont judge, 1st time in these type forums.

Have a great day!

Your cpu would only bottleneck your GPU if CPU usage was very high and GPU usage very low. That is not your case.

Run the game in DX11 and if you CPU usage goes up high 80%+ then there is a bottleneck. 960 is capable of running DX11. DX10 is pretty outdated.

i5-2500k is pretty cheap CPU with a lot of power to help you out if you are tight on money. Otherwise i5-4690 or i5-6500 would be the best choice along with new mobo ofcourse.

When I had my GTX 960 and i5 I was able to run GTA V on the highest settings 60+ FPS, so I'd say.
