What is Your Preferred Aspect Ratio?

CwGoh

Hi guys! :)

I was looking around for a work laptop and could not find a new 16:10 laptop. I prefer it over 16:9 due to the extra vertical pixels for web browsing as well as less wasted space on the sides. (especially 1366 x 768) What do you guys think?

I think 16:10 is. Vertical pixels do matter. I think 21:9 is an alright ratio. I don't like it so much. My next monitors are either 1440p or 1200p/1600p.

I'm still using a 1366x768 laptop. But I like 16:9 for gaming. And I've used 21:9 for audio editing.

I was running a 1080p 16:9 display, now I'm running that along side an Xstar 1440p display with a 16:9 ratio. A lot of content is made for 16:9 and I don't think it reaches the point of being too wide like 21:9 would.

16:9.  No black bars when viewing media, and it's ergonomically optimal for mobile devices IMO.  And less pixels to push while gaming.

I get the whole extra vertical space advantage of 16:10, but I personally would just have another monitor.  A little extra vertical scrolling doesn't bug me too much.

On a desktop yes, but on laptops with 1366 x 768 it's too little vertical space IMO.

Yeah, it's a little cramped for two documents side-by-side. Though I still prefer a 1280 x 800 display.

16:10 for sure. Dem extra few pixels.

But the black bars... There is so much 16:9 content out there.

5:4 I currently use 2 1280x1024 monitors; this is great for viewing articles and working with documents as I get plenty of vertical space.

I think 16:9 is by far better once you hit displays above 1920x1080 in resolution. Dealing with black bars is irritating, and 1440p+ has enough vertical pixels that you don't feel the need to go 16:10.

Also I hate the name 16:10 because it's really 8:5.

I really don't mind the ratio of the screen, since you can always resize (if you have enough pixel, xD) your windows if you so choose.

However, with that said, without any "aftermarket" software for windows, 16:10 is probably best since more and more programs are taking the "ribbon" approach.

Sad but what can you do?

P.S. random fact:

"Ctrl + F1" is the shortcut key for toggling between mini ribbon mode and "normal" ribbon mode.

Is 1600p 16:10?

I have always used a 16:9 monitor and TV

1600p is 16:10

What is this "Black bar" content you speak of?

Movies mostly? A lot of games support 1920x1200 and 2560x1600. Most movies already have black bars due to using a cinema ratio. If that's what we're talking about, it doesn't bother me.

I do like the widescreen format more than square monitors, as long as I have at least 1200 vertical pixels. For me it's 16:10, but I don;t like that video formats are getting wider and wider. The amount of black space is too damn high.

16:10 is my definite preferred choice. Extra vertical space for work, web browsing, and long documents is phenomenal.  I can accept 16:9 on desktops since they can have large enough monitors or simply have multiples, but I find that it's a major annoyance for me when it comes to laptops. I really don't care about little black bars while watching videos.

The slight unused space above and below a YouTube video on a 16:10 monitor. But that's the only advantage 16:9 has over 16:10.

So basically any videos. Which make sense, since I can't think of many cameras that shoot in 16:10. But everything else is fine.
