Project: Fire Storm

Project: Fire Storm

In all seriousness I don't actually name my builds, this is just a title for the sake of sounding cool.

INTRO

I wanted to show off another one of my LAN rigs. I replaced a few components (RAM/PSU/Cooler) to implement a theme because when you own a ROG board you feel like your rig should have some glam factor. I know the ROG red/black/white has been done to death but I still like it.

EDIT: New pics and update @ post #20.

System Specs

Case: Antec DF-30
Mobo: Asus Crosshair V Formula
CPU: AMD Piledriver FX-8350 Black Edition
CPU Cooler: Thermaltake Frio Advanced
RAM: Kingston Hyper-X 8GB DDR3 1600MHz (2x4GB)

GPU: XFX Radeon HD 7950 Double D 3GB GDDR5 ***NEW
GPU: CrossFire (x2) Asus Radeon HD 4870 DK 1GB GDDR5
SSD: 128GB Crucial M4
HDD: 320GB Seagate Barracuda
PSU: Corsair AX760
Sound: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer
OS: Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit
Display: 21.5" LCD Samsung @ 1920x1080
Speakers: 5.1 Logitech Z506

NOTE: I would like to point out I did not buy old hardware for this build. It was all ready a working system, so before you say anything about my GPU choice, understand two things. First is that I have 5 active systems (4 LAN, 1 HTPC) and cannot afford to keep up with buying new hardware all the time as I do have other hobbies. When I do buy something new for a PC the trickle down effect takes place throughout my others systems. The second is that these GPU's have a Red PCB which matches my theme, however I do plan to replace these cards eventually.

This themed build is closely linked with my previous build "Project: Shadow Walker" as I needed to swap the front and rear fans from all my Antec DF series cases to have the Red (AMD) and Blue (Intel) LAN theme. I also sleeved the front I/O, fans, and 8pin CPU extension.

Future Updates:
-Custom Sleeved Cables for PSU

-Possibly cut cable management holes (undecided)

All comments/suggestions welcome.

Enjoy!

You have such a nice LAN Room.

I like the color scheme of Noctua fans. Deal with it. Forget about the bad memories of the past.

  • 4 weeks later...

Ok Guys, Here's an update.

I decided to replace the unsightly Crossfire bridge with a black one which also happens to match the ROG branding. I got it on ebay for $4 shipped.

Update #2

For a more impressive turn of events. I decided to replace the twins for a single card which also fits perfectly with this build having that red bar on the side. How do you like it? Close out pricing put this bad boy at just under $200CAD.
