M.2 SSD help

I have an ASUS Sabertooth P67 motherboard, will a M.2 SSD work with it? I have 2 PCIe 2.0 x16 but they turn into x8 when both are being used.

Your board doesn't have an M.2 slot does it?  So guessing you mean by an adaptor card?

If you get a PCIe to M.2 adapter it will but only at half the speed if you get a PCIe 3.0 adapter and put it in 2.0 slots.

Also would it bottleneck my GTX 1080 if I put a PCIe SSD in the other slot (Causing both slots to go from 2.0 x16 to 2.0 x8)

PCI-e 2.0 8x still delivers speeds of up to 4GB/s, which is definitly fast enough.

Yes, something like that would work absolutly fine.

It would be a 4x card so "only" 2 GB/s but it would still be enough to get all of the SSD without rapid mode (in case of a 950 PRO).

Samsung's rapid mode isn't effected by the PCI-e / SATA interface. All it does is ram caching.

Your motherboard only has PCIe 2.0 though so it would be 2 GB/s.

But it's PCIe 2.0 x8, or does that not matter?

Yes but the card itself physically is only 4x so you won't get 8x speeds but since their website says it's 2.0 anyways you'd be perfectly fine. I don't think you'd bottleneck your 1080 with 8x mode though (just my guess).

PCIe 2.0 x8 is 4GB/s, 1080's Memory Speed is 10Gbps
