GTX 1080 or GTX 1070

Should I get a GTX 1080 or 1070. I want to upgrade so I never have to again(or at least for a while). Currently I have a GTX 970 and a i7 6700k. My max budget is about $750 so nothing over that. Also it's not that I feel Nvidia has superior cards to AMD, I would just rather have a Nvidia card so please no AMD fanboys hate on my decision.

wait for polari.

if roumors are true, a $250 480 will smash a 1070

I would wait for AMD cards to release (You don't have to be a fanboy to come to that conclusion). If you want a card that will last a long time, you are better of waiting for all your options.

If you have to get a card now, then get a 1080 under $750. I wouldn't do 1070 sli

the rumours show TWO 480s about on par with a 1080... (on an AMD biased game)

So I see that all of the replies you're receiving are just telling you to wait until your card dies or switch to AMD. Long story short, the 1070 is better out of the two Pascal cards. Not only are you only paying around $400 compared to the 1080's $600 and above, but you're still getting better than TITAN X performance.

That the hell are you on? 480 will probably be around 390/980 level not 1070 level.

I'm not a fanboy, but honestly, a 480 (with aftermarket cooler of course) will probably set you back about 200-250. If you can get 2 480's for the price of a FE 1070, the 480's will crush (you don't have to Xfire them)

BUT

If you feel the absolute need to get an Nvidia card, get a 1070. Less money and it's unlikely you will be maxxing it out anytime soon if you're playing 1080P

*edit* if you're only playing 1080P you don't even need a 480, wait for a 1050 or a 460

I think the $600 price tag for the 1080 is way steep. Your 970 should still be holding up to current games so I don't see the need to upgrade unless your 970 is burned. 2 RX 480 crossfire should be powerful enough, but not that powerful to burn your money.

I can't run certain games at Max settings and I would like too, once again I want to be able to drive 1080p max settings for next 6+ years

If you have the money and I think you already made up your mind, just buy the 1080. No matter what people say, you'll still end up buying it anyway.

Stick to your GTX 970 and wait for next year release...which will be the big pascal PAPA chip...hopefully with HBM2 memory...it WILL crush the GTX 1080 to no end...you'll be glad you waited.

why are you dead set on 1080p?

why MAX settings...there is usually VERY MINIMAL visual difference between high and ultra anyways...

why 6 years?!

so many questions here son...

and no it wont...6 years is an awful long time in PC gaming...by then even a GTX 1080 will be seriously outdated and will barely do medium 60FPS.

I want to max out my PC this year, because I will be having a steady increase in expenses next year and don't have the time to wait, plus a friend of mine is going to buy my 970 this summer.

alright...you do what you want...but 6 years ain't hapenning even at 1080p...and 1080p is so yesterday already...in 6 years from now most people will have VR headsets with 4K display per eyes...and gaming monitors will be 21:9, 4K, 144hz+...so 1080p you say?!

in fact, honestly i think your next move should be a monitor upgrade...
