Full SSD computers?

AndyKala

SSD's are becoming cheaper by the month it seems. SSD's also clearly outperform HDD. Would it be reasonable to build a only SSD computer within next year? a 2TB SSD is going to cost you about $300 within the next few months I assume. What's your opinion on a only SSD computer?

I run ssd's on all my computers only just for windows then everything else is stored on my server with HDD's. We also want to do this at work.

at the moment a hybrid SSD HDD system is better but SSD's are getting higher and higher capacities you say so next year it is quite possible that a full SSD PC for mass storage would be sensible and super nice. BTW I have two SSDs in my rig ... so bring on the nand-flash

Is that enough storage for you? I feel like i'll need at least 2TB. (I plan on using the PC for gaming, and video editing).

The next iteration of my PC will probably end up being entirely SSD-based, due to me downsizing (hopefully) to a Node 202. As it is right now, if you have the money you can probably go full-SSD.

Right now my Linux server is running entirely off flash drives and SD cards in RAID 1, and my PC running off hard disk drives in RAID 1 (I know I could have done RAID 0 ^_^ ). The struggle when you can afford an SSD but too lazy to buy one.

They are getting cheaper though, I'd say by next year an SSD-only system is the way to go - with hard drives hidden away in a NAS for movies, photos and all that jazz.

It's completely blown out of proportion. Also if you're the least bit worried about data gathering then you should go live in a cave a 1000Km from the nearest establishment simply because every device and every entity gathers information these days. In the current era privacy is just fallacy and nothing more.
