Indian Customers hitting hard on NVIDIA for its insane pricing of 1080 Graphics card

4 hours ago, Kimmers said:

Yea... unfortunately angry forum members with pitchforks will cry out otherwise saying it's all about price to performance.

AMD has announced their 480 which shows the same relative leap in performance over the 380 and priced it at $199 which is exactly the same price as the 380. One might say then that AMD can do this because their chip is smaller, but the same can be said for Nvidia this time around as well. There is no other way to put it than Nvidia being in a world of their own when it comes to pricing.

Umm, we are converting to USD first and then complaining about the price.  it is 80% more expensive after exchange rate is taken into account. My god the people on these forums sometimes kill me a little bit inside (most of you are great)

I remember you from a couple weeks ago going on about how AMD will have no chance against the Pascal lineup, Hmm, how wrong you were. Anyway I hope you understand that we actually have a point here. Australia they are putting a 25% price rise on it (after currency conversion) Things like this are unacceptable and clearly you must learn so.

Never said anything about AMD not being able to compete with pascal must have me confused with someone else. As for the prices dont see why they would have the prices higher unless of some tax or exchange rate. The indian dollar is only worth .0015 usd. No reason Nvidia would raise price for no reason. Probably import tax maybe or the like. Either way I think India has other issues other then paying a little more for a gpu.

Edit: Honestly dont care what they charge people will still buy it and I know customs in other countrys charge more to import stuff. Either way a gpu is a non essential item if your so worried about higher prices up root your life so you can get a gpu for cheaper. Dont know why people bitch about something they dont need. Just save up or move to the usa.

Edit: Amazon prices even in the usa are high right now due to scalping.

Edit: Yeah looked on amazon.in the prices are from scalpers not straight from amazon or nvidia so that destroys the argument on high prices right there

I'm waiting to see a more powerful card from amd. Holding off on a 1080 until either a price drop from nvidia (unlikely) or a cheap competition from amd (more likely)

Wishing leads to ambition and ambition leads to motivation and motivation leads to me building an illegal rocket ship in my backyard.

Went on Amazon.IN all the prices that are high are from third party sellers and not amazon or nvidia themselves dont blame the company for what scalpers do. Same thing is happening in the us version of Amazon too.

I'm talking about the ENTIRE world outside US. Nvidias pricing is insane for countries outside the US, and don't give me BS about shipping costs because I know what it costs to send a 1KG package over here and I'll give you a hint, it isn't $300

Just the typical symptoms of a paper launch.

The card became "available" May 27, but to actually get one we'll have to wait a month or more.

I just hope AMD actually has 480s available June 29, should be easier since the die is smaller.

Hype + early adopter premium is going to gank anybodys wallet. It's tempting though but meh, I'll patiently wait what hbm2.0 can offer.

Classic case of supply and demand. Has very little to do with local taxes, exchange rates (of course prices will be higher even with proper supply because of those factors). It was the same with AMD cards during the bit mining frenzy. However, this time it's because of Nvidia wanting to be first at any cost; launching before it's ready. It was too easy to predict this scenario and the best part is who gains from this? Retailers. Nvidia is most likely not making much profit from this.

Your post has the wrong info, so I corrected it. GTX 1080 $599 for custom coolers from Nvidia partners. and $699 for the Founder's Edition which is the blower style cooler

nvidia_founders_edition.jpg

Founders=reference= 699$/799€

Plastic shroud blower style from AIBs=599$

Custom cooling ones= more than 599$

Here in Denmark the price for Founders Edition is 6149DKK (924$/827€) which may be in the high end, but honestly its a fair price. Because if I wanted to import it myself the price would be more or less the same (including import taxes and shipping), but I would then lack the 2 year warranty.  But if you take salaries into account it is suddenly a whole other story and suddenly it's actually almost cheaper here.

At the end of the day it is just an expensive piece of hardware, even for the average american. This sucks for people from countries with lower income than the US, but that is just how it is.

$699 at the current exchange rate is €624.19, France has a 20% VAT rate bringing it to €749, import duty itself is around €120 and then you have shipping. France is getting a pretty great deal.

Your not reading my post. I told you I went on the Indian version of the site and the other versions what I saw was THIRD PARTY SELLS SCALPING the gpus to people NOT NVIDIA. You cant blame a company for what random THIRD PARTY sellers do. This is also happening in the USA. I made everything bold so you can take your emotions and put them away so you can actually read my post.

Guys, the 1080 is overpriced everywhere, since there are no custom variants (and they're NOT going to cost $599, that's the price for the shitty plastic blower cooler ones)

Not as extreme as in India, but in Italy the reference costs €799 (but it's still not available) and preorders for custom ones are more expensive...

wat?

xD:P

Only 2 kinds, custom which includes plastic shroud with blower fan and axial style coolers. Founder's Edition, aka reference design which also means the design of the graphic PCB and cooler that's designed by Nvidia. Planning to water cool, then most will get the Founder's Edition as EKWB, most of the time just makes it for reference design cards.

Back on topic.

More expensive is most likely import taxes like VAT. Yep it's that. Shipping isn't that much.

In India Computer Component is duty free and Landing Charges rate is 1%, Countervailing Duty rate is 12.5%, CESS rate is 3%, CEX (Education & Higher Education CESS) rate is 3%. India have Vat on retail market of 4% per supply chain.. Usually- 4% for importer, again 4% on distributer.. 4% on retailer.. Then again there is shipping and shipping insurance costs..

i do not understand aswell... the 1080 preorders went live where i live.. and i have seen the prices in other countries aswell.... why the f***k is the gtx 1080 price so high in the eu... around 780 euro... lets do some quick math here... msrp... is 599 usd - 536 euro + vat = 638... so basically they re are telling me that the rest is shipping cost or what? and that is just  the FE... The AIB versions are even more expensive above 800 euro... and NV told us at at their lauch event that AIB versions would be cheaper.... might aswell wait for polaris... dafuq

The officail reference (founders) is 699.

"Custom" ones will START at 599 and those will be the cheap blower version which are NOT using the founders cooler, but a generic plastic one made by the AIB partner. Then there will be "real custom" ones which will be more expensive than 599 for sure.
