but as it stands nvidia has a few months where they can do what they want. The same thing happened a few years ago when nvidia launched the GTX 780 and original Titan. It was a few months before the AMD R9 290 and 290x arrived so in the interim Nvidia was able to charge high margins.

That's not how it works either. Linus has a guy (Coltan) who adds topics to the doc and they pick the ones they want to discuss. I've had topics in the doc that they've skipped over in the past, it's just the luck of the draw. 

 

To be honest it's great when you make WAN, it's a great way of rewarding the user base but I don't even think about it when I post news. The news comes first and if it makes WAN, great!

My guess is they don't even want to ship cards worldwide until they can fully meet the demand in north america. Prices should go down when availability becomes better, hopefully.

Hm... seems like everyday there's a new story about India supposedly getting "price gouged" by these electronic companies. What is the common factor across all these products? Selling in India. Perhaps they should fix whatever is going wrong at home before complaining.

A reference 1080 costs $890 here. The 980 used to cost ~$700.

This has always been the same. It's very annoying, but somehow only the US matters when it comes to price, so whatever.

I have yet to see any cards remotely close to the MSRP...in any global market or from Computex.

 

All AIB solutions have been at least +$50 from MSRP. We're paying at least $30 more from MSRP to get a custom cooling compared to previous generation. In terms of India, maybe the price is extremely high because of low supply rather than gouging? I don't know. 

 

I hope it's not the same for the 1070.

I don't even understand what the problem is.  The product is more expensive than you want to pay, boo fucking hoo.  The company can sell their stuff at whatever price they want, though in fairness you can complain about whatever you want too.  They want to sell it for $1 in country A and $1,000,000 in country B?  Looks like it sucks to be in country B.  So either don't buy it, or buy it from country A somehow, there are services that will buy something and send it to you if the company won't ship to your country.

I do, however, agree that the Indians are getting gouged here. An 80% price increase is beyond any sales tax.

the 980 ti launched at $649 so you would think that they would launch their xx80 card at a lower price point then their xx80ti card. the 980 launched at $549. the 1080 should be 549 and the founders edition shouldn't be more expensive. If nVidia really wanted a reference design out during the whole life of the card they should of just made a deal with the board partners to keep a reference design always for sale.

I think a lot of people would disagree with you on this forum. This forum is crazy about price/performance and Nvidia priced the 1080 as such.

699 is not a fair price for a reference design of a card that would otherwise be 599(in my bracket, I take back what i said about the 1080 base price). When the 1080ti comes out it will fall in my bracket and people will look at it and then look at the 1080 'founders edition'  at that price and be confused. The founder card is just a money grab from the people can't wait a couple weeks and from people who think it is better because it has the word edition slapped onto it.

This is a problem with India not Nvidia. The indian dollar isnt worth much this is why you get something called inflation. If you couldnt figure something basic like that out its no wonder your country's economy is shite.
