I could test that with my 290, it can reach a stable clock of 1260 (and 1375 for showing off XD)

I suspect they got one either at Macau or Taipei.

Honestly an r9 380/390 already rules 1080p so this card will do great in 1440p (hopefully)

We're talking about why 4K TVs and monitors are about as ubiquitous as 1080p TVs and monitors and moreso than 1440p. It obviously isn't to do with gaming natively at each resolution.

Well that's what I was talking about. Obviously 1440p TVs don't exist (afaik) which is fine and understandable. Which for what you're talking about Youtube and Netflix yeah there isn't much GPU horsepower going to run that. Though I doubt an A8 6410 could run 4K. I'd rather see more OLED displays become more commonplace before we bother bumping up the resolution.

This does make me excited for the 490 and 490x even though the new 480x will do what i need for 1080p I may just wait for the 490x to future proof myself a bit.

No. Any Pentium's iGPU can do it (at least it could a year or so ago, before Intel nerfed its decoding capabilities in a driver update). Any AMD APU. An FX 6300 could probably decode 4K YouTube/Netflix and it doesn't even have on board graphics. Think about it logically -- any smart TV that includes the 4K Netflix app -- what kind of GPU do you think that TV has in it? Barely any -- it's a shitty phone/tablet ARM chip. Any desktop iGPU is going to be more powerful than it. To display and decode 4K is a piece of piss. A fucking potato could do it. Almost literally.

 

I don't care about oled at the moment. A desktop OS has too many stationary parts (taskbars, menus, etc), and most games have far too static a hud. That is going to burn in. I've seen screen burn-in on Samsung phones. Do not want.

 

I can't remember how we got onto the subject of the relative takeup of 1080p, 1440p and 4K and I cba to check back. A 480 is massive overkill for viewing 4K content. Unfortunately however, the cheapest discrete GPU with HDMI 2.0 is a GTX 950. I do wish Nvidia and AMD would release some shit-tier GPUs just for the purpose of 4K - 8K 60fps video viewing. iGPUs are fine, until a minor upgrade costs you the price of a new motherboard and a new CPU for the sake of a $50-75 GPU.

480/X are the highest end Polaris offerings, working off the fact that the 6 other GPUs are Polaris 11 and supposed to be low end. The 490/X will probably come in October.

It doesn't. I didn't start his conversation about different resolutions, but you're sure as hell continuing it.

 

As for the laptop it could be the Internet, or it could be that you are attempting to use the CPU to decode rather than the GPU.

On a different note this is good for consoles and really shows maybe they could pull off a 4K console at console graphics and 30FPS but 4K. Or PSVR

What? Just because it doesn't have an 8-pin AND a 6-pin and eat up a lot of power, it's not a powerful card? Just asking but I do agree with your skepticism. We'll know for sure once benchmarks start trickling in. ;)
