I personally just started to gain an interest in miniature nitro engines, can you tell me about them?

a lot of nitro engines can rev really high (up to about 20k i think) i would love to own an nitro rc one day but i already piss of neighbours with my dirt bike.

they're also quite hard to start (well some are, hpi and traxxas have a roto-start thingy which is neat and easy to use as it inserts into the back of the engine and tuns the motor) as you have to mess around with tuning and idle screws + glow plugs, but once that's all out of the way they are a heap of fun and can take quite a beating.

one last thing, they're also super loud(not necessarily a bad thing in my opinion)

That's what I've heard, they make so much power despite their torque just because they spin so fast.

From what I've seen (which wasn't much), they're pretty easy to start once they're set up.

Also, I've heard them through videos and their sound is unique, but it might be an 'acquired taste'.

Kinda off topic, but I have an fpv racing quad. It's fun as hell, but I'm also considering building an fpv wing for like $150.

In this picture, I have

  • Armattan F1-6 Frame
  • Cobra 2204/2300kv motors (they're falling apart, new RS2205's should be showing up this week)
  • DYS 20a BLHeli ESCs
  • Naze32 Rev6
  • Matek Powerhub v1.something
  • HS1177 600tvl camera
  • RMRC Cricket V2 200mw VTX
  • Immersion antenna
  • DAL 5045 V2 Triblades

Well I have been into the hobby since I was 3 so yeah. My first hobby grade was a 2wd stampede which I still use as a main basher today. A lot has changed considering it is now a 4X4 slash that runs 2.2s and has a mamba monster in it running 6s. Fun fact still using the orginal steering linkage and driveshafts, also the shocks. Best shocks for slash ever. The linear ones that have now are garbage. I also have a Vaterra Galmis Uno which is a blast. Except they discontinued parts so I don't want to break it. How I have my truck is perfect. I can slap a battery in it and run it until it goes dead without anything breaking or over heating. Not to mention to suspension is A+

I was in and out of the hobby for pry 5-6 years, but haven't done much for the past few years since I had to grow up and buy a house which really kills the hobby time. :(

About a month ago I did somewhat start it up again, in the process of converting a Miss Budweiser boat to electric for my grandpa. He wants to play with it at his cabin but doesn't want to deal with the nitro engine.

a12v5x.jpg

My first RC was a Duratrax stadium truck, but the first one I ever spent a good amount of money on was the original Traxxas E-Maxx which was like $400 at the time. Bought some aluminum strips from Home Depot and made my own skid plates, bumpers, and servo protector. I also learned that I sucked at painting... It was supposed to be dark grey with yellow flames, but the yellow bled thru and turned most of it green.

vz8nth.jpg

The only nitro I ever enjoyed was a Mugen MBX4, with a STS 22 engine. I honestly don't remember ever breaking anything on it, it was extremely solid.

4vpkc3.jpg

About that time was when brushless was becoming really popular so I ditched nitro all together and blew my entire summer savings on a Mini Revo the day it came out, plus every part I could get for it. Castle Creations brushless kit, beadlock wheels/ better tires since the original tires flew off about 50 feet away from me the first time running it with the CC kit, RPM arms, aluminum shocks, faster servos, better adjustable links... and I broke it every time I took it out, it was nothing but a money pit. Its one of the few RCs I actually sold, most are still in totes at my parents house haha.

2mpij9u.jpgoa7vus.jpg

Then I got into a micro craze, and bought some Losi Micro T, DT, and SCTs. Ended up building a CNC machine just so that I could make carbon fiber chassis for them.

So here's my RCS, first up is my vaterra Kalahari that's in bits(nicked the receiver out of it for my dx2l) and I plan to overhaul it at some point.

Second up is my MST ms01(its actually for sale rn) I bought this as to get me into drifting, but it ended up getting too repetitive for my liking, it was cool and all but wasn't for me really.

Lastly is my hpi Baja 5b (don't have a pic of it but every rc hobbyist knows what a Baja 5 looks like) it was actually my first rc but some how its in a steel box in our garage. I do plan to resurrect it at somepoint, but not right now.

Currently I've been looking at the scaler side of things, and may treat my self to one soon. So yeah that's my 'fleet'.

my first and only RC is my arrma kraton had it since this last Christmas an have spent 800$ on it (340$ for the car, 300$ for lipos and a charger, and the rest in repair parts.) I have 300$ of free upgrades in it courtesy of arrma, and a 22tooth pinion gear with a stock 55tooth spur gear, i have bumpers from tbr and a savox steering servo with a novak racers glitch buster the 6s packs im running are the new turnigy graphine battery's.IMG_20160427_235347.jpg the diffs are blown atm and it's gonna take a machine shop to fix because the screws are locktited and I can't remove them without stripping it, before that this thing I feel could easy hit 100 mph.

I'm mad, I was looking forward to flying my quad this summer while I have shit loads of time, but the video transmitter broke in a crash and it's out of stock on RMRC... And I'm on the other side of the planet, but that's irrelevant.

Hey guys. I have a traxxas slash. The Slash only came with a car charger because it charges faster (and for money). I'm tired of having to plug it into my car whenever I need to charge it. Traxxas offers an AC-to-DC converter for $20. I have seen other AC-to-DC converters for only $5. So my question is will any AC-to-DC converter work on my Traxxas Slash or will only the Traxxas brand AC-to-DC converter work (without damaging the car battery). I hope this makes sense. If there are any questions, ask me below. I would appreciate all knowledge and answers.

why not just get a decent charger all together for $20 more like this one and get yourself a TRX (traxxas connector) charge lead whilst your at it, plus if you ever decide to go to the lipo side of things (highly recommended imho) this does charge both nimh and lipo.

but if you don't want to do all that i'd just go with the traxxas ac-dc converter

i have a hyper7 TQ. got it for around 150. the guy i got it from brought it and could never get it going or running properly so it was basicly brand new

DIJZK1g.jpg

about a month ago i took it into school to race a few of my friends with there electric cars and i was using his old remote (not the 2.4Ghz transmitters) and it disconnected and my car was stuck with the throttle fully open(the receiver had no fail safe). it then had about 25-30 meters to get upto speed and then it his one of the steal bars holding up the fence and this happened

Ouch, I've done something similar a long time ago with a 1/10th on road piece o' shite, only it was my own stupidity that full throttled it (brushless system, 9.something volt Nigh battery) into one of those concrete barriers in a parking lot.

There's a lot of 2ch 2.4 systems that are less than a bottle of nitro.

haha ive had my share of crashes into things like bollards and holes. the worst one would of been if my car went down this drain. basically me and my friend climbed into an old building site and started to rag my car around. there was an old truck loading bay that i drove my car up onto and i dint check what was after the drop and i jumped the car off of it only realizing i missed a massive drain hole going down about 15 ft with concrete in the bottom i missed the drain by about a foot

haha, i had something similar happen to my 1/5th scale, the rx pack ran out of juice, i was doing a speed run and it hits the curb then launches about a good 6-7ft and on its way up it hits my Dad's truck front bumper, lands back down on the front. i only broke the front left a-arm and bent the shock tower. this was a good 3-4 years ago
