And what Display? Why do People always forget the Display? If you have a 60Hz Display, your 100FPS count nothing.

Why buy a 1080 if you use 60hz display?

Anything above 60 fps will be forced to displayed as 60 fps.

If you get 300 fps in game  you still can only see 60fps because of those monitors.

 

Advice: buy a good 144hz monitor first, then buy everything else.

How many frames was it running at? If youve ever played, youd know that running at 100FPS really isnt that great at all, feels choppy. Thats why everyone wants a lot of power so they can keep it pinned to 300-400FPS, which is actually butter smooth. Thats what I do, as well as pros and many others.

Running at an exact multiple of your monitor refresh rate is actually the way you want it to get butter smooth...

 

300fps on a 144hz monitor is actually significantly less smooth than 288fps. Just pointing this out.

CS:GO can run 200 FPS on my ancient GTX 670M GPU. The GTX 750 Ti can get even higher because a) It's a desktop GPU, duh. And b) It's more powerful than the 670M. I know this because I can hit 40 FPS on ARMA 3 with the details cranked. So no, you don't need that much GPU horsepower if a $100-150 card can hit those numbers.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but the way I understand it is that the image on a 60Hz screen changes 60 (or however many) times per second, meaning that you can effectively only appreciate the 60 fps. A 144Hz screen, however, can change many more times per second than a 60 Hz, giving you a much smoother experience.

60 Hz on a monitor means that the monitor can only draw 60 frames in that refresh rate.

On a 60hz monitor, 100 fps is less smooth than 60fps (due to inconsistent frame pacing).

 

2x monitor refresh rate is generally a very good target for competitive gaming.

 

Oh and yes a 144hz monitor will look more smooth than a 60hz monitor.

Yes, but frame pacing is an VERY IMPORTANT issue. 

 

Running at 60 fps on a 60hz monitor looks significantly better than running at 60fps on a 144hz monitor (although tuning down to 120hz removes that issue.)
