Is GTX 1080 Worth Buying For CSGO?

Goliathx

I play a lot of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive but at the moment I have a GTX 660 but need a upgrade and I wanted to know is the GTX 1080 worth buying over the GTX 980TI for FPS.

Not at all. Get a 970 or wait for the 1070 if you're patient enough. That game is so easy to drive, you don't need that much GPU horsepower to get >60 FPS.

I wouldn't spend that much money just to play CS:GO but if I can't change your mind the 1080 is better than the 980ti

if you are buying it just for cs go then no a 770 is enough to drive it at 4k 120+ fps and probably a even slower card will work as well

but if you are also planning to use it for more demanding games then go ahead

If you primarily play CSGO then I wouldn't recommend such a powerful card like a GTX 1080, maybe not even a 980

That is unless you are running a 2k/4k monitor and want to run it at ultra settings, then that's a different story, but lower cards can still give you 60+ fps

uhh the GTX 660 is plenty powerful enough for CS:GO. I'd bet right now your 6300 is holding it back.

That said, assuming the 1080 is cheaper than the 980ti, OFC get the 1080, but even a 950 or god forbid a 1070 will be plenty strong enough.

yeah the GTX1080 is seriously overkill for just CS:GO. even something like a 390/970 could probably play it at max settings 1080p 144hz.

What do you think "More than >60 FPS" means? It means more than 60 FPS.

And the 960 will get triple-digit FPS numbers easily!

I’m getting avg 100fps but it doesn’t feel smooth enough and something the game freezes for about 1 second which on csgo is a big problem.

I won't argue with you there. Although setting a FPS cap at sometimes helps smooth things out.

Like say 90 FPS (although ideally a direct multiple of your monitor refresh rate.)

If all you play is CSGO, just upgrade to a 750ti. Your 660 should be running CSGO fine though. Could just need a cpu upgrade?
