GTX 1080 - UK members, we're getting SCREWED... AGAIN!!!

So, in order..

1. http://www.ncix.com/detail/gigabyte-geforce-gtx-1080-8gb-7c-131126.htm   $909.99 canadian

 2. http://www.xe.com/currencyconverter/convert/?Amount=909.99&From=CAD&To=GBP £477.82

3. https://www.overclockers.co.uk/asus-geforce-gtx-1080-founders-edition-8192mb-gddr5x-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-400-as.html £649.99

That's £172.17 or $ 327.85  in canadian... for the SAME product...

I'm really annoyed. I'd rather give someone on here $150 to ship me one they pay these bastards.

Old news, blame Mr Cameron for these taxes...20% on everything then if you're importing something, you could pay up to an additional 19% on duties :/

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

Yeah. Is it the TAX? Shipping cost to transport over here. Just so used to it now.

If you want the best you have to pay for it.
You could, you know, be happy with what you have though.

I am aware guys, this isn't surprising to me either.

It's not just import duty and tax though. Partly just jacking up the price for the hell of it.

Welcome to the world of Tax. It may seem cheap in America, but if you import it, you're going to be spending more than you would buying it locally anyway. If you get someone to pack it up as a gift, then you could avoid a lot of the import charges.

You can't go off exchange rate alone. You have to factor in other things, such as the average wage, product margins and so on. They're not doing it for the kicks. It's a calculated decision for profit after considering various factors to evaluate the market.

IIRC, the UK has a higher average salary than in the US (if you're going by exchange rate). Pretty much everything is more expensive over here if you go by exchange rate as well. If you really want to complain, move to somewhere like Brazil, where the taxes are much worse than here for imports. If you're going to be annoyed with anyone/thing, it would be the UK tax laws, not Nvidia. You can't expect Nvidia to price things the same over here and take a (minimum) 20% chunk out of their profits to avoid annoying some people.

Look, Nvidia said the MSRP is $699 which is £477.66 not £649.99

It is $699 USD...

It doesn't translate to GBP that way...  Taxes, duties, and cost of doing business all add up...  And of course a smaller market and there you go...
