Dual Monitor Update (advice needed)

Trionth

I recently built my brother-in-law a video editing rig and got him set up with some arm-mounted dual 25" IPS monitors which look fantastic. We bought them from a local computer shop that was going out of business for $100 each. After getting him all set up I headed back home to my dual garbage VGA monitor setup and now I want to upgrade. Unfortunately the shop has sold its inventory and is gone now, so I'm looking for suggestions on what your favorite monitors are.

Newegg is having a sale: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236584&utm_medium=Email&utm_source=IGNEFL052716&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL052716-_-EMC-052716-Index-_-LCDLEDMonitors-_-24236584-S0J

But the reviews don't seem so awesome. Looking at newegg and mostly amazon now. I dont do any work that requires perfect color so could probably save money there.

What size screen and port types are you looking for?

Minimum of 24" and hdmi is fine, I have a couple display port to hdmi cables around and will be ordering a GTX 950 to replace my old 650.

I have 2 of these as side monitors and they look great, not sure if you're looking to move into 1440p.

That asus looks really nice and a great price too. Wish it had mounting holes on the back, but it might be worth using it on the monitor stands like I have now for that price.

I was hoping to get them both plus a mount for around $300. I realize I got a deal finding monitors for $100 each so maybe its better to just wait until I can afford nice monitors.

Well here are the cheapest 24" & 27" with versa and hdmi I could find on newegg...

24" http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824112025

27" http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824160080

What do you think of the reviews on that Asus I posted? $130 off seems pretty nice, but the most reviews are... not the best. If you like Asus monitors though maybe its worth it?

Well it is at a decent price and has the 27" hdmi and versa you were looking for. It comes with a 3 year warranty and rapid replacement though I have yet needed to rma an asus product in the last 10 years. The $130 off is from the msrp so it probably less of a sale that that...but still a good price.

Most of the bad reviews on newegg should be taken with a bit of salt 4 eggs is solid okay to buy rating, and over half of the reviews are 5 eggs... So if you like them I would go for it, not really any better choices around that I could find in my brief searching.

EDIT: after browsing the bad reviews most of them are about 1080p at 27" being an issue and having a hard time with small text seeming pixelated.(well duh sit farther back)

A GTX 950 shouldnt have any issues running both monitors at 1440 so that shouldnt be an issue right? I don't do any crazy gaming, just D3, League, CS:GO, that sort of stuff. My 650 only has struggles with D3 on max settings at 1080, so a 950 shouldnt even sweat it.

I wouldn't think so. But 1440? those monitors are only 1080p 60Hz though, can you clarify?

You seem to have some time on your hands (must be working haha) so I'm going to pester you with another concern:

Should I go with a 24" monitor at 1080 rather than a 27" at 1080? I keep reading stuff about text sizing issues and gaming being weird where at 27" because  there aren't enough pixels to keep things sharp at smaller sizes.

Yes I am at my job right now, lol. I personally won't go over 24" for a 1080p.

(I'm quite pleased with my 22" I'm using at my desk right now, and I have a 24" for gaming at home from my big chair)

Big 1080p can look strange because of the ppi being lowish, windows does have some built in clear text feature or some such that can help with that.

(I would like to note something similar was also an issue back in the tube tv days)

But overall I would say it depends on how close you will be sitting to it. 2 feet from a 19" looks about the same as 4 feet from a 27"

If you've got a big desk or stay back in your chair and are 4-5 foot away when at your keyboard typing a 27 will probably be okay.

Otherwise if you're up closer all the time you will be having issues seeing all of one screen at one let alone two.

Not sure what else to tell you other than trial and error I just kept upgrading(over the course of several years) until I found my sweet spot, a lot of it is personal preference.

I can re-hunt for some chill 24" monitors if you want, I've got the time at the moment.

Everyone is out of the office for the day, so I'm just browsing Amazon and Newegg for 24" 1080p monitors. I would love your suggestions. Thank you!

I've heard great things about BenQ: http://smile.amazon.com/BenQ-GL2460HM-24-Inch-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B00IKDFL4O/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1464371515&sr=1-1&keywords=monitor+1ms

Alright, that Asus monitor looks good (and is cheaper on Amazon)

Is there a reason to pick the Asus over the BenQ? The Asus is $10 cheaper after the mail-in rebate (I have yet to actually receive a mail in rebate back, so thats not too much help)

BenQ: http://amzn.com/B00IKDFL4O

Asus: http://amzn.com/B0058UUR6E

This is the desk mount I'm looking at getting: http://amzn.com/B0052AWGLE

Well the asus logo is better looking?

Okay The asus are a bit lighter, they are not TN panels, and the controls are on the bottom so you can get at them easier when mounted.

They are also less glossy so they will look better longer. and more squared so they will line up easier, and well they're asus.

but otherwise not a big difference. either way both are a solid choice.

p.s. that mount looks like a good option. provided it will work with your desk. I would measure before buying just to be sure.
