Question about Sandy Bridge,p67 chipset and Memory.

Ok eariler this year i have an i5 2320 from a system thrown out by a neighbor,i bought on craigslist a asus p67 board from some guy.

Well i was having 2 problems, one was weird RAM problems,i had 4x 4gb sticks,2 of which i knew were good, but the rams was picky about which slot i put it in,and if i had 1,2 or 3 sticks it would say say i only had 4gb of ram yet the SPD info would see of the sticks,if i had 4 sticks it would show as 8GB.

the other problem was only 1 HDD drive been seen, and thinking back now that may have been a bad SATA cable, either than or the bad sata port problems those boards had.

I was recently thinking, isn't the memory controller on the CPU with sandy bridge and newer? Could the CPU of been the problem?

99.9% of the time it's a problem with your motherboard, maybe the ram, but most likely a board.

I know 2 of the stick were good, and just running them, still had the weird problem.

i say check the mobo for bent pins

because your memory are controlled by the CPU

if any of the pins are not touching

certain RAM slots dont work

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

I have the board right next to me,there are no bent pins.

P.S. I traded away the CPU when i thought it was the board. so i can't do any testing.

go up to ebay and hunt for i3 cores for cheap

that way you can test if it mobo or CPU
