Smaller Xbox One Coming This Year, More Powerful Xbox One In 2017

well kotaku have a source inside microsoft saying that there will be 2 consoles a small one coming this year, with double storage  cheaper and focused on streaming, not clear if it's a revised xbone or some kind of steamlink device..

and another xbox more powerfull coming in 2017, and...the 2017 xbox will be compatible with Oculus rift...this actualy makes sense as to why microsoft seemed so weirdly close to oculus

so im not fan of microsoft or the xbox, and i do not like how they are trying to turn PC into a console, but some of these thing might actualy help them sell the xbox especialy VR, if the oculus rumor is true, which technicaly is possible, the box is basicaly running windows 10, although i dont see how all of this would work price wise, the oculus+touch should be around 800$, not an easy sell, and the price is still too high even if bundled, anyway this E3 might be very interesting if sony/microsoft explain more their plans.

Yeah right, for the desktop only I assume? Because if you want to run games at a Vive/Rift screen resolution at 90 fps you need a little more horsepower than what an XboX One  (or PS4 for that matter) is capable of delivering and will ever be able to deliver.

And damn right it ought to be smaller. The current Xbox One is absolutely massive, with a huge power brick, and it's a potato.

mmm Allowing oculus on a new xbox is not a bad idea, you could buy it use it both on console and pc rather than choosing a vr headset tied to just a console (ps vr), plus it saves a lot of money

You understand the concept of bulk purchases reducing the price of a good, right? Right now (or at least very soon) you can build a PC, paying retail prices, for $800ish that will be capable of playing games in VR. Microsoft won't be paying retail prices for their components, because they can guarantee manufacturers of their components sales. That's huge. You don't have that power when you build a PC, and retail PC builders are not an appropriate analog either because Microsoft's revenue may be driven by console sales, but their profits are driven by game sales. They can sell this device at cost, and turn a profit the second they sell their first game to each consumer.

 

The new console is rumored to be four times as powerful as the current iteration, not to mention that there's testing going on right now in the VR development space that suggests that you don't even have to render the entire FOV in full resolution to get the majority of the experience, because people tend to move their head to get a better look at something rather than moving their eyes.

 

Who knows, by the time the Xbox One-Two launches in 2017, Oculus may be a couple of months out from launching a revised headset that includes eye tracking to dynamically adjust the resolution based upon where the user's eyes are looking. This is early days in VR tech and you're going to see both hardware and software revisions that drive the compute power requirements down.

 

Also make no mistake developers will know what the majority of those Rift devices are plugged into, and if the answer is an Xbox One that's what their target platform is going to be. There's a pretty solid chance that will be the case if they form their partnership, which certainly seems likely.

the only exclusives on Xbox One I remotely care about are Gears and Halo, and chances are they could come to PC anyway

 

PS4 has so many more exclusives if you must get a console

To be fair, I've seen plenty of shitty looking VR games, most of us asume something like Elite Dangerous but VR is looking pretty fucking casual for most of the library of games out.

To be fair to VR devs the headsets have just started to make their way into customers hands.

makes sense, i dont think oculus+vive even broke 500k units, thats a nothing install base, no studio would invest 100mil to develope a game for this small number, or even regular studios, the payout isnt there yet, so you are basicaly left with small studios or Devs who doesnt have a real project in sight with nothing to lose and not that many resources.

real games will start rolling when PSVR shows, or oculus/valve studios make a game for their headsets.

was expected when they announced the prices of the headsets between 600-800$, that strips the appeal right off the Devs.
