If I recall correctly, it's that they ship with "vivid" profiles as default meaning that the color space is very wide and at the same time, the aim is to make the colors 'pop' because it looks good to many people and make the screen appear very vibrant. OLED is very easy to make appear so 'life-like' that it becomes unnatural. The colors and display temperature is calibrated towards making the colors appear brighter and to catch the eye instead of being accurate. While smartphones have been moving towards proper calibration (probably thanks to Apple), the TV industry completely ignores this and ships TVs with horrible settings, especially those on display in stores. They are way off, but it attracts buyers because they're set in a way that most find pleasing and attractive even though it's unnatural and inaccurate.

Which is why old CRT and early LCD TV and monitors wreck new screens in colour reproduction. As it is my old 1024x768 85Hz LCD monitor is only just behind my old 60Hz CRT monitor of the same resolution in colour quality. And its only got an old TN panel. (pretty much IPS colour quality, TN view angles)

I'm sure Apple's sticking with AMD. After all, nVidia charges too much for Apple to make the huge profits they generate from each Macbook.

Exactly. Production costs would go up if they used an nVidia GPU ;)

I would welcome touch ID on a laptop.

 

I don't know what this OLED bar will be doing but I prefer my tactile keys. What would be nice to see would be an OLED screen but that would make MacBooks out of this world expensive.

no, its worse than that. Atleast Ted got distracted and busy with other obsessions while apple only wants to have that one obsession with how thin a device can be.

It's so fast that I opted to turn it off. I'm so used to pressing the home button to see notifications or the time but with touch id it unlocks immediately.

Maybe Intel doesn't spec their TDP the same way nvidia or AMD does. Or another possibility is Apple overclocking the Core M chips because they aren't fast enough for their standards.

The fact that it was not default was implied in the post you quoted and explicitly stated in another post of mine. 

 

But as I also said: they ship with "poor" calibration on purpose; it boosts their sales. It's only enthusiasts who value true accuracy.

Why does it always take Apple to bring stuff like this. Who cares about OLED burn in issues, I'm pretty sure there is one OLED display that doesn't suffer from this kind of issue.

Oh I had thought that by physical keys it meant the whole keyboard, just the F keys. I still think that's a dumb idea to make them touch.

Also Touch ID is a dumb thing to have for a laptop.
