4K G-Sync monitor

Hi all,

 

I'm currently looking for a 4K G-Sync monitor. I'm not really a monitor expert so I need some advice.

When I'm looking at 4K G-Sync monitors I don't have much choise. And the only monitors I find are released like 2 years ago.

So my question is, do you think there will be new monitors soon, or you don't have any idea?

I don't need the monitor fast, I can wait a couple of months, a 1440p monitor would also be great.

Personally I would lean towards the Asus PG348Q. 4K isn't really optimal yet both in gaming and desktop applications.

I would wait for the high refresh 4K monitors to come around. Then you can take full advantage of G-Sync.

Welcome to the forum. I saw that you reside in belgium, I don't know if you live in the French part or not though. Have a look around the site, look at some reviews and try and find some reviews of somewhat more known people once you found a couple you like.

 

As for the avaiability of 4K G-sync monitors, I don't think they are going to become mainstream anytime soon and thus I think there will not be any new ones coming anytime soon.

When would that be? Also the horsepower needed is insane. 4K at 144hz is massive

Not 144hz, 120hz. And not necessarily. I get around 80 fps in GTA V with dual 970s, in something like Mass Effect which is really not difficult to run these days I am CPU bound with a 3960X at 4K. People have this absurd preconception about 4K just by default being incredibly taxing as if every game ever made is The Witcher 3 or something.

 

It makes me laugh when people get a G-Sync monitor and insist on playing at the full refresh rate or even higher, ergo completely negating the point of g-sync. If you get anything between 40 and 144 fps then G-Sync will make the experience better. If you get over 144 fps and you cap it, then you may as well use v-sync. Or... fastsync. Whatever.

 

Now we have actual consumer cards with the new Displayport standard I expect monitors taking advantage of this to arrive towards the end of 2016, beginning of 2017.

Asus makes the ROG Swift 27" now in 4k, also in 144hz/165hz 1440p, both of which I have.  I do have a 4k Gsync, the first one really available in my parts last year (Canada), Acer's 28" model.  It's actually not to bad for an Acer product, we were pleasantly surprised, and the Gsync works well, no blown pixels still, decent construction, etc.  So, that one or the ROG Swift 4k would be my pick in your place.  60hz kinda blows at lower res, but if you're dead set on playing 4k with most of your games and don't care about not having 100hz+ in lower res for your games...

Computex is next week. DisplayPort 1.3 GPUs are releasing now.  Wait for the inevitable 120Hz ips g-sync 4k monitors to be announced next week.  Then you can choose whether to wait or get one of the existing 60Hz 4k monitors.

i picked 1440p for gaming because i enjoy higher framerates. 4K is very demanding.
