Will my CPU bottleneck a GTX 1070?

Hey guys,

 

My first post here.  

 

I am thinking about getting the GTX 1070 when its released but I am wondering if my CPU will bottleneck it. Here are my full system specs:

 

Intel i7 950 @ 4GHZ 

G.SKILL 6Gb RAM DDR3 1600MHZ

EVGA GTX 750 ti

Corsair 750 watts PSU 

Asus 1080P 24 inch Monitor (144HZ) 

 

I don't have a budget for a full PC upgrade at this point, so I am only thinking of swapping out the video card for a 1070 when it's out. Hoping my system can handle it. What do you guys think? Thanks!

I would advise getting a better CPU for your build personally, but even if your CPU does bottleneck the 1070, it's not an entire waste of money as it will still be an upgrade to your current 750 Ti.

I'd guess it likely will pose an issue in some more CPU-heavy games.

I'd suggest going for the 1070 (Major improvement over a 750ti), then once you get more money upgrade your CPU, motherboard, etc.. as needed

Thanks everyone!   @App4that awesome video! Yes it doesn't mention the 950, but it gives me some idea of what kind of bottlenecks I can expect. 

 

The games I want to play are Doom 4 and Mafia 3. Hoping that a 1070 with my current rig can help me play them at max settings (@1080P) with some decent FPS. When  I can afford a new rig I will simply move the 1070 over.

If you wanna play the newer gen games, I think the i7-950 will be a little long in the tooth. If it was a 2600K, then I'd not worry too much.

 

You can have a look around for a second hand 4770/4790K if you like to upgrade, but that would also mean RAM upgrade. If you can, just go straight for a 6700K upgrade.
