  • By harnessing ‘big data’ and the power of IBM’s Watson technology platform

• First time Watson technology will be used to improve patient experience in the UK

• They believe that by applying Watson, it will improve patient care and generate savings for both the hospital and the UK National Health Service

• Plans to utilize Watson to analyze feedback that’s voluntarily/securely provided by patients

• Planning to increase patient experience by:

  • Identifying patient anxieties and providing info and reassurance on demand

• May 11th, Hyperloop One made its first public demonstration with it’s “Sandshark” test sled

  • Tube that will be used in final model was replaced with an open-air test track

  • Propulsion Open Air Test (POAT) used electromagnets to propel a sled at 115mpg (185km/h)

  • Along a test track running 1500-ft long

  • If the track was doubled in length, the Sandshark would reach speeds of 400mpg in two seconds

    • Going fast wasn’t the purpose of these tests

  • Purpose of test is for a build up to a full scale test version of the system

    • Expected to come online later this year

• About 10 miles north of Las Vegas, Nevada, USA

• New transportation system promises near supersonic speeds at ground level

• Hyperloop will consist of a partly-evacuated steel tube that will run a capsule

• Capsule will use a compressor to create a stronger vacuum ahead of the vehicle

  • To cut down air resistance

• Will include a passenger/cargo compartment

• Will contain batteries to power the system

• Will contain a levitation device to lift the capsule off the guide rails

• Hyperloop one uses compressed air forced through runners to create a near-frictionless surface to glide along

Oxford Study Finds Virtual Reality can Help Treat Severe Paranoia

• VR can help treat severe paranoia by allowing people to face situations that they fear

  • Says an Oxford University study with patients from the Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust

• VR simulations allowed the patients to learn that the situations they feared were actually safe

• Study was published in the British Journal of Psychiatry

• Combined evidence-based psychological treatment techniques with state-of-the-art VR social situations to reduce paranoid fear

• 1-2% of the population has severe paranoia

  • Typically as a feature of mental health disorders such as schizophrenia

• 30 patients attending treatment services at Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust took part in the study

• Train ride and lift scene were used to show the participants that these situations are safe

• Patients were randomly given different instructions on how to deal with these situations in VR

  • One group was encouraged to use normal defence behaviours

  • One group was told to hold a long stare or stand toe-to-toe with avatars

• Patients who fully tested their fears in VR showed substantial reductions in their paranoid delusions

• Over 50% of these patients no longer had severe paranoia at the end of their testing day

I see you guys talking about SLI in the wan show, I don't follow much the news about DirectX 12 and the hardware that supports it so I have a stupid question. Does DirectX 12 support and utilize multi GPUs(without SLI/Crossfire) even cards from Nvidia and AMD rendering games together? There were rumors an year ago about this but idk what happened.
