Apple not able to recover data from missing teen iPhone

NumLock21

Quote

A Team of engineers at Apple couldn't extract information from an iPhone belonging to one of the two teens who went missing last summer, but one of the families is still pushing for further testing.

Last July 24, Austin and Perry both 14, went missing after they have gone on a boat fishing trip all by themselves, setting out from the Jupiter inlet, Florida. Their capsized 19 foot craft was found this March by a Norwegian supply ship, off the coast of Bermuda. A iPhone was found in one of the boat's compartment. The phone was sent to Apple engineers, who had to disassemble it, ran diagnostics, and repair components before any data can be extracted. Sadly Apple was not able to retrieve any data from that phone, as the iOS running on was 8.4, and they're unable to bypass the username and password. Apple said they can handle over the phone over to others, that might be able to recover it, if the families wishes them to do so. The missing teens families are devastated by the outcome, and wish any data can be extracted, just to have a piece of their son's memory.

Let's hope those other might be able to, or another way, like find their son's finger print, make a mold and use that to unlock.

From what I read elsewhere, the phone was so badly corroded by the salty sea water, there was very little to no chance of recovering anything from the phone.

Edit: also they found the phone 8 months after the boys went missing.

Am I the only one who doesnt get why they want to get into the phone? Its not an investigation, its not a crucial piece of evidence. Theres either a story here or theyre just being strange about it. Your son just died, and now you want to get into his phone why?

I think, in my not so expert opinion, that the teenagers by now will have been passed through a shark's (or several sharks, if they were sharing) digestive tracts and turned into shark poop, and then into undersea compost.

Unless they were actually kidnapped by some adults who are into doing evil things with teenage boys, but since it was a boating trip, Im going with my shark theory.

However, in the case that they merely drowned, then its only a case of searching the globes entire sea bed to look for their remains, starting with the pacific.

But then, even if they drowned, sharks likely still ate them. How could they resist free food? Nommy.

Linus is my fetish.

They want to know what happened, at last moments of their son's life. Maybe there is a message, video clip or a picture.

Why, why do they even try. It is impossible to unlock it without the passcode (the FBI did it with an older iphone without some security features).

We've now got three different subjects going on, an Asian fox and motorbike fetish, two guys talking about Norway invasions and then some other people talking about body building... This thread is turning into a free for all fetish infested Norwegian circle jerk.

if the phone backed up to the cloud i'm sure they could have that data oer and someone could brute force it.

brute force the icloud or iphone data?

I think they already have the unencrypted icloud data.

edit: and you cant brute force AES 256-bit if that is what they used on icloud

Icloud, i assumed it would be encrytpted when uploaded and would be almost the same data as the phone

They can probably make a mold out of a finger print, just like the first video.

they might have a problem finding a  8 month old fingerprint of high enough quality to satisfy touch id.

That is assuming the data on the touch id controller isnt lost.
