Monitor on couch?

Rotterdams

Hi guys,

I want to buy a laptop and use it on the couch but do monitors exists which can stand still on places such as a couch?

Reason is I want to play on the couch with a wireless keyboard and mouse.

I work 40 hours a day behind a desktop so gaming at home behind a desktop no way.

So I thought about using a monitor on the couch lol

just get a sturdy piece of wood or something to make a flat, solid surface for the monitor

This guy knows something we don't! My days only last for 24 hours.... We need to find the hack he's using :)

To OP: I don't get it, why would you want to place your screen on a couch if you *are* sitting on it? Is it that big? Why not use a table for your monitor and rest on the couch with the kb/mouse? But yeah anyway if you absolutely want to put it on the couch just find something flat to put it on, there is no magic base for couch monitors :P

I'm trying to picture your scenario though and I can't. So, you plan to be sitting on the couch, right? Do you have another couch in front of you? Or do you plan to sit sideways on the couch? That could hurt your back int he longer run.

Also I'm not sure I understand what you want from your hardware exactly.. Your girlfriend wants you to use your laptop but... you don't? Then what will power the monitor you're looking to buy? :D Or you have a desktop and you didn't mention.

I'm not being sarcastic at all, just trying to understand exactly what you want.

Well, what you can do, is this.  This is in the assumption you have a gaming desktop.

1.  Mount a monitor to a sturdy coffee table at the side by using monitor mounts.  You'll need to also put some heavy books and stuff there, so it doesn't tip.  In this case, you'll also have to have your desktop nearby to plug it in.

2.  If you got really good wifi, (ac wifi, or w/e the newest thing is), you can get a steam link.  Same thing with monitor, but you can hide your desktop else where, and use the steam link to stream the game to the monitor.  No AC wifi? just run an ethernet over.

3.  You dont need a table.  Wall mount a monitor to your wall.  Hide, and run cables to PC nearby.  Play off a wireless controller, and keyboard, and have a foldy chair nearby to use to sit on when gaming.  Also, the razer turret is coming out soon i think.  Good wireless keyboard and mouse, with attached mouse pad that makes gaming wireless, and without any table relatively easy.

Sorry, read wrong, i guess you either have a laptop, or will get one.  Same stuff applies though

I will be lying down on the couch. Having my keyboard on my top of my penis.

Having the screen infront of me somewhere on the couch.

I dont have a desktop but I want to buy a gaming desktop and have it next to the couch.

This is the part I don't get though - How can you be sitting at the couch, but then have more couch right in front of you?  Foot rest?

Anyway, now I get what you want to achieve. But frankly, I don't think putting a monitor on a couch is a great idea, be it with a solid base or not. It will just be too prone to accidents.

Is there any wall near the couch, preferably at the side? You could wall mount it with double brackets so you could move it around for multiple purposes. If you want to have it in front of you, you can, if you want to retract it to the wall to free up space, you can do that too. Or you can just turn it around for others to see.

I know you said you don't want a table, but what if you could get some small table on either side of the couch, and use it to add a desk mount? Again, with brackets and all? You could even put the computer on it, which would help save it from dust and other hazards :P

Lastly, there are those "laptop tables" which are made so they can fit on the side on a couch and slide in so you get a desk right on top of your laps. Not sure how much weight these can support, but they look pretty convenient and I have seen people using them for wireless keyboards and mice.

You could get a table with wheels and use it from there, but I doubt your back will thank you for using a monitor while sitting on a couch.

Its a large couch so I got enough room infront of me :D like half a meter.

Sadly there are no walls on the sides :D

Oh man this is going to get difficult :D

at first I wanted a desktop and connect it to the laptops screen so all hardware was being used of the desktop. So the laptop uses no resources. But sadly thats not possible :(

Have you thought about using an external GPU connected to your laptop through thunderbolt? Sounds like a good solution to your problem. You can buy an enclosure and have it sit where the desktop would, connect it to your laptop and use it normally on your laps. It's not going to get too hot and you will get the performance you're after.
