If I'm going to buy something expensive I'd happily spend an extra 100 bucks to have something expensive that also looks expensive.

Looking expensive doesn't give you better performance sadly.

Why is the world like that? xD

Of course it does. Didn't you know that painting flames and stripes on a car adds 200 horsepower to the engine? I think it works similarly with GPUs, each LED adds an extra gigabyte of VRAM.

:D

So this would be the first ''non founders edition'' GTX 1080 to be spotted in the wild...it's from Galax and it's meant to be a very affordable design, even cheaper than the ''reference card''

It use a plastic shroud with a blower style fan design and no backplate, all this in order to bring the cost down as low as possible.

So this is Galax take on the GTX 1080 cooler:

That design looks cheap as fak !

all of the blower designs that come out right after its announced usually look kind of cheap (not as bad as this one but still) basically just reference design with a different shroud

Thats not custom cooled.

Thats 'worse than reference design' cooled, bottom end cheapest version.

IMHO blower coolers need to banned.

Because there's never a situation where exhausting heat directly out of the case is better, right?

Never in any case where you are buying a high end GPU. If you can afford such a GPU, you can afford a decent case to put it in.

high end cards arent meant to go in mini PCs.

I don't think it looks that bad. Back plate would be really nice but it's not glossy or tacky, just plain. That would work for people with no window or who just want performance.

and you can always just buy a backplate if you want to lol.

=======================

If I was to buy this, It would be in plain sight, wouldnt have a care in the world, I never gave a damn about appearences of my PC. I just want performance.

Says you. I've seen plenty of absolutely killer gaming HTPC's. Part of the fun is fitting as much power in as small a space as possible.

So get a decent fansink design for lower GPU temps, and use a water cooler on the CPU, job done.

Theres no need for GPU blowers, ever. They are universally pathetic for cooling.

To be perfectly honest.  It looks like Galax just slapped a piece of cheap plastic on the 1080 and said this is our final product.  Facepalm.
