Folding and NAS rig

So with my starting of lots of programming, I've found I need lots of space as my 750GB HDD is going to mostly be used for games. I'd also like the rig to be able to fold as I've found it really intriguing to do. I'd also like it to be under $600 CAD. I'd like it to store 4TB with a small 250GB drive for OSs and some programs. Some recomendations for NAS guides would be great as well. I'd also like it to be as small as possible. Some used parts are ok. Thanks!

Should probably just forget the folding part, and just get a cheap AM1 based NAS or something, although a proper NAS has ECC memory

8300 as it's easy to OC it to 4ghz at around 1.3V and it's multi-threaded performance will beat out an i5's, suppose you could always try your hand at used old server parts as well

You don't need an OS drive for FreeNAS, and you could run a virtual machine under freeNAS, suppose you might need an OS drive in that case though

I'd like it to be quiet and draw little power though, which AMD chips are not very good at. And I'd really like the folding part. I only want to CPU fold on low though, just a bit in the background.

I suppose you could still virtualize 2 cores of the 5350 for the folding stuff, these have fairly low power draw with a 25W TDP, any desktop chip aside from the optimized parts, are going to use a fair amount of power. Unless you drop the money for say a skylake i7 6700.

You could try the avaton they listed in the video, that would be a relatively low power 8 core, but it's 425 USD, so ya.

20W TDP, Supports ECC

realistically, I don't see any way of keeping your power usage down, while maintaining some semblance of performance for folding. Older Intel server parts are going to draw more power than the modern stuff naturally if you end up going that route.
