strix x99 Asus adds new boards for Broadwell-E

The next wave of Intel Core i7 processors for socket LGA 2011-v3 is coming. These new high-end desktop CPUs will plug into the same socket as their predecessors, and with a firmware update, they’ll even work in existing X99 motherboards. In fact, the requisite UEFI updates are already available for our current X99 products.

Asus has revealed some new boards to their x99, to go together with the upcoming Intel Broadwell-E processors. They added some new features and different style than their current X99 line up. All of their new X99 boards will feature Aura lighting, with their Deluxe II, X99-A II, and Strix X99 having additional 4 pin header for adding extra light strips. A improved fan header, providing up to 3A of power for high performance and industrial fans. Borrowing from their Z170 line up, is their water pump header, dedicated for AIO cooling. The water pump header is dual mode, that means it can be used as that or as a fan header. And SSD Secure erase, where they introduced it in their Z170 line up. SSD Secure Erase isn't new, it goes way back to, I think their Z87 ROG boards.

 

Starting with their entry level X99, we have the Asus X99-E. With a MSRP of $219, it's the cheapest out of the 4. It supports up to DDR4 3200MHz, at 128GB max. Has 3 physical x16 slots, where you can add up to 3 graphic cards for 3-way SLI or 3-way CFX. 10x SATA ports and a M.2. There is no U.2 because Asus thinks who ever buys these boards are most likely on a budget and probably won't be getting a server grade SSD or HDD that uses it.  On the back we have some USB 2.0, 3.0 and a 3.1 Type C. Intel Gigabit lan and audio outputs.

 

Next is their Asus X99-A II. It has 8x DDR4 DIMM slots that goes up to DDR4 3333MHz. 4x Physical x16 slots, supporting 3-way SLI and CFX. 10x SATA, 1x U.2, and a M.2. Asus also includes a special cpu installation tool to help beginners, so they don't damage the socket on the motherboard. Price of this, has a MSRP of $249.

 

At the top of their Signature series, there is the Asus X99 Deluxe II. This board has almost all the bells and whistles a user would probably want. There are 5x physical x16 slots, with 4 of them that metal plated, supports 3-way SLI and CFX, although you can run quadruple gpus at x8/x8/x8/x8, so maybe 4-way SLI? Dual Intel gigabit lan, 10x SATA ports, although 2 of them are place at a odd position. A vertical M.2 and 2x U.2 for server grade and NVMe drives. As with the Deluxe, you can expect it to come bundle with a bunch of accessories and they have done just that. Along with the included M.2 x4 PCIe card, 5-pin fan controller hub, you also get their Thunderbolt EX3 PCIe card that has USB 3.1 type A and type C connector, where their type C can work as standard USB 3.1 or Thunderbolt 3, providing up to 40Gb/s of bandwidth. As with the amount of feature on the Asus X99-Deluxe II, we can expect to carry a heavy price premium and it's no surprise this board carries a MSRP of $419.

 

Their newest board to the ROG line up is the Asus Strix X99 Gaming. Unlike the Signature series, which features a white design, the Strix X99 Gaming has a black design with orange accents that was seen on some of their other ROG boards like the Z170 Extreme Assembly. According to Asus, this board is is a mix of their Asus X99-A II and X99 Deluxe II. What you get is the same number of PCIe slot like the X99-A II, and also has built in WiFi and Bluetooth just like the X99 Deluxe II. The difference in the WiFi and Bluetooth is, this one runs at 2x2 instead of 3x3. On the connectivity side, there are 10x SATA ports, a single M.2 as well as a U.2 connector. On the ROG side of things, this board also features their GameFirst IV where it will prioritize your games packet first before any other applications and ROG RAM Cache, where ram can be allocated for cache purposes, to boost drive performance. The Asus Strix X99 Gaming comes in at $339.

It adds a bit more than just RGB and USB 3.1, but to answer your question, the x99 Deluxe II will have the same VRM setup as the current x99 Deluxe.

Also with this method, you could potentially remove these and put in your own custom logo to be illuminated.
