GTX 1070 or 1080?

Lets start from the top, I bought an 980 ti for $600 2 days before the reveal of the GTX 1080 and the GTX 1070. So I thought since the 1080 will start at $600, and it is almost twice as faster, I would just get a refund and get the 1080. So newegg agreed to give me a refund, but only $510 due to it being opened. Since I would be almost $100 short($600 was already above budget as it is), should I just go for it, and put the extra money in for the 1080, or save money and get the 1070, and use the money I saved on accessories? I currently game on 1080p, and would love to upgrade to 4k in the near future. To wrap it up, should I spend more money and get the 1080, or go for the smaller brother, 1070?

nobody knows about the performance of the 1080 and 1070 right now since nvidia's graphs are always misleadingly showing performance per watt or just cherrypicked.

we can assume that its going to be pretty fast but we need to wait for real world benchmarks.

We don't yet know just how much faster the 1080 and 1070 will be from the 980Ti etc. The slides and info during the presentation were somewhat misleading. The 980Ti is still a great card and will be for some time, especially for 1080p gaming (it's overkill, really). But you did say you wanted to go 4k, but how soon? If it's not anytime this year, then I would say just keep the 980Ti.

Wait for the benchmarks, if the 1070 turns out to the price per performance king the 970 was get two of them in SLI and you will get the best deal for the price. Of course we don't know yet so wait.

Before you (or honestly anyone else) go on and start making decisions on a GPU upgrade when that GPU was announced nearly . It'd be best if you waited for the benchmarks of Pascal, and for Polaris and its benchmarks to drop.

However, it's reasonable to presume that the GTX 1070 will preform with in the 980 and 980ti territory or potentially getting up into Titan X territory with the 1080 probably performing right around the Titan X.

._. Well, what I was trying to say was that Polaris might have something better than the 1070 or 1080 for less or the same.

They don't have that class in World Of Warcraft unfortunately.

I think you're thinking Zen, and that'll be released sometime in Q4 with the APUs launching in H1 2017.

Polaris 10 and 11 cards will probably be announced later this month and start being sold in June.

Astoundingly in a thread titled "1080 or 1070" I did not bring up the 980 ti for seemingly no reason, no.

Welll the OP was talking about refunding his 980ti for a 1080..... so i dunno i assumed you were talking about the 980ti...

I just... the thread is called "GTX 1070 or 1080?" His question is "should I spend more money and get the 1080, or go for the smaller brother, 1070?" My prediction is that the performance difference will be marginal and... I really don't see where the 980 Ti even fits into anything I have said. 5% performance difference?
