Can a Core 2 Q9550 run Windows 10?

Alrighty, so my question is simply the title.

There reason why I'm asking this is because Overwatch apparently requires a windows version that needs to be fully updated. I'm currently using win7 and since kept windows updates off since my build was sold to me (6 years ago), I believe it will take a loooong time to download all of it (6.6Mb downspeed). Updating to win10 is the better option imo, so before I went along doing so, I checked if my computer could run it and apparently some people are having issues running the win10 OS on the Core 2 Q9550, and then theres some that have no issues at all.

 

So pretty much I'm sceptical, since I have no experience with different computer parts besides the ones I have in this PC. Although I will be building a new computer in the next few weeks, so this won't be a issue then, but since the beta for OW is out I kind of want to play it now. So if anyone knows if I'm good to go, won't have to backup, etc please tell me so below, and on the reverse if it's a bad idea and if instead I should just install all the windows updates (it could be smaller than I think it is).

You should be more worried about being able to run the game, let alone the OS.

 

Yeah it will run Windows 10. But if you're building in the next couple weeks you should be fine.

If some people have this problem, then go safe with Windows 8.1

I have a Q9550 on a Intel X38 chipset mobo and I did install W10 on it, without any issues

W7 still miles better

Yea, Win8.1 is stable and perfect. Using it with Q9400, no issues.

Yes, considering you could run it on a Pentium 4 (not that anyone would do that unless they were desperate+had nothing better). Just make sure you have at least 4GB RAM.

Why shouldn't it? I'm sure there are people who are having problems with your CPU and Windows 7, for example. Give it a try, see if it works. Usually it will go without problems, but if you encounter any, a clean reinstall will usually solve them.

You can run windows 10 on basically anything

Windows 10 is pretty lightweight. Isn't that what they have running on the Intel Compute stick?

Yeah that's why I'm a little scared.. backing up my computer will take a long time too since the transfer rate from my hdd to my external drops to like 20-30MB.. it's really slow. I've probably got like 300GB+ to backup. I think I might just go and update my win7 because specifically the game required win7 to have 'Service Pack 1' installed (screenshot below).

One last question, 

Should I update win7 through the action center (not sure if it's even supported to do so through that anymore), or from some other site for example, Microsoft's official site?

I'd like to.. but I don't exactly have the time to do something on that scale nor do I have the knowledge on how to. 

Like I said previously, backing up everything will seriously take a long time for me.. not sure if it's because of how old my HDD is or my motherboard, but I seriously get terrible transfer rates. I might aswell just wait until I get my new computer and transfer my stuff onto the new HDD and SDD that will be running on that system, and then do a fresh install on this current hdd for my younger brothers.

Yeah I guess but just update Windows 7 to newest then but do not update to 10 or else... X-X

I run Windows 10 Pro x64 with a Xeon E5450 and a Chipset G41 dell Optiplex Motherboard with no issues.

The Xeon E5450 is close to equivalence with the Q9650 if I'm correct. I don't think the issues people are having are due to underperforming.

Not sure if it's due to chipset, instructions or something like that, but I haven't had a single issue with Windows 10 on these machines. (Oddly enough I have a problems in windows 10 and 8.1 on newer machines at work, they are core i5-4440's and I get bluescreens like a mad dog on acid!)

I have installed Windows 10 on 12 year old PCs, so you're going to be fine there. Just use the media creation tool to initiate the upgrade, you don't need any updates.
