Components list for my first build.

Looking for advice and criticism on my components I plan on using for my new PC build, this will be the first PC I have built, I'm looking for maxing out 1080p with at least 60 frames on most AAA titles. Also wondering if I can use an older hard drive on a new pc, does it matter as long as it has the right connections? Also, looking for something under $1,300.

For under 1300 you can just grab a 1TB WD Blue and an SSD (120-240GB) with the build you already have.

Welcome to the forums!

Looks like a good build.

  • You could go with a 140 or 120 mm radiator instead of a 240 (unless you plan on heavy OC - 4.2 GHz or more)
  • A 650 W PSU or even 600 W will be fine even with OCing

i7 4790k | MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition | G.Skill Ripjaws X 16 GB | Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB | 2x Seagate Barracuda 2TB | MSI GTX 970 Twin Frozr V | Fractal Design R4 | EVGA 650W

A gaming PC for your budget: $800 - $1000 - $1500 - $1800 - $2600 - $9001

Hello there, and welcome to the forums!

Looks like a good build, except that you're spending too much money on processor and other parts. This is a gaming build, first and foremost. So recommend the following changes:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i5-6500 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($193.99 @ NCIX US)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H170-D3H ATX LGA1151 Motherboard  ($89.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Memory: Kingston FURY 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory  ($33.98 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: SeaSonic S12G 550W 80+ Gold Certified ATX Power Supply  ($69.99 @ Amazon)
Total: $387.95
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

The problem is that this is an nVidia product and scoring any nVidia product a "zero" is also highly predictive of the number of nVidia products the reviewer will receive for review in the future.

I wasn't wrong. It's extremely rare that I am. I provided sources as well. Different devs can disagree. Further, we now have confirmed discrepancy from Twitter about he use of the pre-release 1080 driver in AMD's demo despite the release 1080 driver having been out a week prior.

You apparently haven't seen his responses to questions on YouTube. He is very condescending and aggressive in his comments with which there is little justification. He acts totally different in his videos. I don't necessarily care for this content style and there is nothing really unique about him or his channel. His endless dick jokes and toilet humor are annoying as well.

What would I be looking at if I also wanted to do some video editing/rendering in at least 720p

Editing should be fine with the system you posted, though you should keep your video files on your SSD while you're working with them, to keep response times good.

You should be fine recording gameplay footage at 720p, though any higher and you might want an i7 (not sure if you were planing on recording games though)

I'd stick with the 6600k over the 6500, personally. It's up to you.

Definitely go with 16 GB of RAM though!

720P? xD

The build with the changes I recommended is more than enough to do a hefty amount of heavy lifting.
