My GPU doesn't cooperate.

MaxTCC

I have an ASUS ROG GR8 Steam Machine running Windows8.1 64-bit, with a 3.1GHz (maximum) i7-4510U, an Intel HD 4400 and a GTX 750Ti, 8GB of RAM.

My guess is I have some driver issue, because any 64-bit applications don't recognize the/aren't recognized by the NVIDIA GPU. 32-bit applications work just fine.

Has anyone ever experienced this issue and/or know how to fix it? I'd prefer to leave installing a fresh copy of Windows for a last resort.

The computer also has 2 ports, an HDMI and a DisplayPort port. I currently have the monitor directly connected to the HDMI port with an HDMI cable, and since he control panel shows the monitor is connected to the iGPU, my guess is that this port connects the monitor to the motherboard. Is there a chance connecting it to the DisplayPort port could connect it to the dGPU which in turn would fix the issue?

Thanks again. ;)

Are you running the latest Nvidia drivers?

From what I could see by searching for images, in this particular machine the 750Ti is not physically a desktop card, but it is fixed to the motherboard like a mobile GPU. So there may be some kind of firmware/bios setting that might need to be changed?

What happens when you try to run a 64bit application/game? Does it just run on the Intel iGPU instead?

If I try to run a " 64bit application/game", it just runs on the Intel iGPU, yes. And it's not just that case of people saying it does and it doesn't actually, for example, Witcher 3 dropped from 30FPS at Medium-High settings to like 2 at lowest settings 800x600 :-P

I am indeed running the latest NVIDIA drivers, and giving my BIOS is ridiculously limited, there is no option regarding the GPU. Or the CPU or the motherboard, for that matter. :/

Hmmm... This is a head-scratcher. I'm not familiar with these devices, so I don't really know what else to suggest. Have you tried contacting Asus support? The only thing is; because this is technically a "Steam machine" meant to run with the SteamOS, they may just tell you it won't work with windows. I would think there has to be a way though. Tons of laptops out there, including my own, have both the Intel iGPU and Nvidia dGPUs and switch between them accordingly. This should be no different. Might just simply be lack of proper windows drivers to support the specific hardware in this machine...
