New Student Laptop

Hey everyone, i was wondering if you give weight in with your opinions in the asus q553ub-bsi7t13 as a student laptop. I ask because im looking for an upgrade and this guy caught my eye. Short summary of my needs for reference: engineering student, some 3D rendering work to be done, need decent battery life (3-4 Hours), decent amount of internet browsing and online assignments, also im looking to start to get into PC gaming. Thoughts? Thanks guys and gals, have a great day.

My absolute max. would have to be about $1200 U.S. dollars. If possible $1000 would be better

Mostly will be working on a program called SolidWorks and some CAD

Maybe a macbook air but it might be too weak for rendering and definitely  gaming but battery life is great.

I would rather sacrifice some battery life to get better performance for rendering and gaming to be honest

The Dell XPS 15 gets pretty good reviews on weight and battery life.
I don't really know much about CAD programs.
But they do come in a variety of setups.

[Keyboard: AZIO MGK1] [Mouse: Logitech G303] [Monitor: 2 x Acer 23" 1080p IPS]

Go with the one you mentioned. It will be okay for basic gaming aand rendering should be fine.
