Updating Errors

m_mcginness

Hey, I got a S6 edge back last summer and have been having issues with updating the software on the phone. I have yet to complete an update since my purchase. Every time I download a new update, when it comes down to instillation the update stops and says that there was an error. The old software has been leading to some poor performance and issues with crashing/slow apps. Any ideas on to why I can't update my phone? My current OS is 5.0.2

Is your phone rooted?

If yes then you will have to either unroot, or flash the new OS version

I'm with AT&T, I bought it from them on a two year contract.

Sorry about the late responses. I've been busy with school

Then there could be many reasons to this, and i probably just remember a few of them, first try restarting the phone if you havent already tried it, then if that doesnt solve it see if you have enough space on your phone memory, not your SD card(500 mb - 1 GB should probably be okay). Then if that doesnt solve it try charging it while updating, if that doesnt solve it then you should try updating it using kies , you will need a PC for this and a micro USB cable (which you probably already have), if you want instructions on how to use kies read this.

I can only think of two other ways of fixing it and its, either to root your phone and then flash the new OS onto it, or resetting the phone to factory defaults and then updating as normal.

Yes, the warranty would be void. You should be able to make a backup of your data before unlocking the bootloader.
