Headphones for Under 200 USD

TheGhzGuy

Hello all!

I have a friend who wants to buy some headphones for 200 dollars (Won a gift card at a raffle) He prefers open back, for gaming and the sound stage. He wants over ear, not on ear. Any help or suggestions are great! Thanks!

EDIT: Should have probably said this before, but my friend prefers more of a flat sound curve. He's not a big fan of bass heavy headphones.

These are a great option all around: http://www.amazon.com/Technica-ATH-AD900X-Open-Back-Audiophile-Headphones/dp/B009S331VU/ref=sr_1_57?ie=UTF8&qid=1462237230&sr=8-57&keywords=audio+technica

DON'T buy reference headphones!!!! They sound bad because they are meant for audio editing not media consumption.

The Audio-Technica ones look the best out of all of them. Thank you for the suggestion!

what the m50x is far from open I think you need to learn a bit more about headphones. Okay "reference" soundbad.. You do realize that reference is a very loose term. No reference headphones model sound the same you can just look at the shitty m50x they are called reference headphones, but so is the k612/712 and they sound nothing like the m50x. Sound is very opinionated so you are wrong by saying reference headphones sounds bad. I can see that you like the m50x, but they are "reference" headphones, so you kinda just shot yourself in the foot. Have you maybe thought that different headphone models can sound very different.

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

My main Headphones and IEMs:  K612 pro, HD 25 and Ultimate Ears Reference Monitor, HD 580 with HD 600 grills

DAC and AMP: RME ADI 2 DAC

Speakers: Genelec 8040, System Audio SA205

Receiver: Denon AVR-1612

Desktop: R7 1700, GTX 1080  RX 580 8GB and other stuff

Laptop: ThinkPad P50: i7 6820HQ, M2000M. ThinkPad T420s: i7 2640M, NVS 4200M

Knowing nothing about your friend's preferences for sound, the HD 558 or HD 598 SE would be a good place to start.

Bullshit.

That would make sense. (I should have mentioned that before, my bad! He prefers more of a flat sound curve. He tried Beats once and found hem awful. Same issue with my Jabbra Revo's, which are less bassy)

(BTW, that response of "Bullshit" was hilarious)
