Trouble Installing New Fans

atavax

So my new case arrived today and i'm trying to install my new noctua fans in it. I bought the NF--S12B redux -1200 fan. And i'm having a bit of trouble installing the fans. The screws are kind of odd. They're the metal screws and they don't taper at all but have like a wedge removed from the first third of the length of the screw. And the fan holes don't appear to be threaded either. Do i really just need to roughly jam it in there or is there a way to finesse them in?

thats the case for most, if not all, fans

does the redux line not come with the rubber mounts though?

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

no rubber mounts in the redux line : /

then just screw them in,

the first time will be tough since you have to tapper the threads into the plastic, next installation will be just as easy as screwing it in

damn the statement above reminds me of something else...

yeah, i got 2 of the 4 installed now. Noctua fans are just expensive, didn't want to ruin one play too roughly with it.

This is the way most fans are mounted. The screws are self-tapping (like the kind of screws you find at the local bar ;)) and will be tough the first time.

Although I have iFixit's older tech toolkit, and a PicQuic Tiny Turner screwdriver, I find getting the thick handled full size driver from the toolbox works best.

You could also pre-thread the screws outside of your case just to make it easier if you're trying to mount them in a hard to reach location.

2nd half was harder, as i was switching out the default back fans with noctua fans and i stripped 3 of the screws that were connecting a metal protective screening for the inside part of the fans when screwing them into the noctua fan, but was able to get them securely on with the help of a vice grip. Now time to unplug the pc and switch over all the components, with me luck.
