I have been using the Blade 14 from Razer as my daily driver for a WHILE now... Can the smaller, updated spec Stealth finally knock it off the throne?

Best notebook around for that price honestly. What else is such a slick, well-built total package for $999USD? Not a lot really.

Hmm but they all seem to have nasty flaws, normal build related like bad screens, nasty trackpads, bad keyboards or just poor material choices (looking at you glossy white plastic!).

Since this is an Skylake i7, shouldn't it be DDR4? On the video Linus mentions DDR3.

you can put ddr3 on skylake. there are desktop motherboards too.

something like the dell xps13 is a pretty good choice either. and if your not all over thinness like you can get awesome thinkpads for that price. those have my favourite keyboards and trackpads of all laptops

But the XPS is a little more expensive right? And IMO a notebook needs to be no thicker than a retina MacBook Pro or it won't be portable enough for me. I have a desktop for serious work anyway.

its actually not with the same storage and (in my opinion) a better screen and some other little stuff.

also i have a thinkpad l450 with the big battery pack that carry around everywhere. its quite mobile and i dont have to worry about anything since the thing is tougher than any ultrabook and the battery lasts way longer

If it works for you I guess :) Personally, I carry a Surface Book around and I certainly wouldn't want anything heavier since I carry this, a 10400MAh powerbank from Xiaomi, about 15 assorted pens and pencils, an A5 notebook and A5 sketchbook, normally my MX Master for classes and whatever else I need for the day. The Surface is best for me right now as I love the digitiser for class/work (studying Industrial Design at uni, and am a graphic designer for work).

its funny im carrying nearly the same stuff :D

laptop, mx master, a lot of a4 paper, a 38wh 19v battery (for my laptop) and a lot of cables and small stuff

lol so basically it's a ultrabook with a Razor logo on it.   Tbh, I don't know if mainstream, non gaming folks would even consider looking at Razer when buying a ultrabook.

 

and lol at the messed up alphas on the spec text.

As mentioned above, it's basically this, the XPS13 or the much more expensive Apple or HP Spectre lines. The base $999 model is probably the best ultrabook for the price. Obviously there are cheaper ones, or more powerful ones or whatever but this is the best I've seen.

Would this be a good ultrabook for getting into sound design? Razer offers FL Studio 12 with this and their other notebooks, so would this be a good recommendation for a getting-into-sound-design college ultrabook?
