Well publicised proof of Windows 10 pestering - Live weather report interrupted

Preface: It is "publicised" not "publicized", you North American mongrels.

Well, Microsoft did make a statement awhile ago defending their Windows 10 campaign.

Now everyone who was tuned to this television channel has seen it.

Quote

During a broadcast on Wednesday morning, Meteorologist Matinka Slater of KCCI 8 News did manage to act much calmer, however, when a Windows 10 pop-up-shaped ‘hurricane’ appeared to be advancing on the state of Iowa.

Slater quickly got rid of the pesky popup and tried to continue with her forecast, but Windows 10 doesn’t give up easy though with the remainder of the images on screen stalling.

Sorry, this has already been posted in off topic.

It was posted before but the OP did it wrong and so Mods moved it to off topic iirc.

@nobelharvards it is publicized not publicised. :P

What Microsoft thinks:

"Lets put some pressure on users to try and get them on our new free product!"

How it feels:

get_win101-500x913.jpg

"Normandy" i7 4790K - GTX 970 - Phantom 410 (Gun metal) - Z97 Extreme4 (asrock) - 128GB Crucial SSD - 1TB WD HDD - H60 Refurb. - 7 case fans | G710+ Keyboard, G230 Headset, Acer GN246HL Monitor.

Quick thoughts on system: I7 is extremely quick and I'm glad I spent the extra for hyper-threading. I regret my decision to get the GTX 970, it has horrible coil whine. There isn't any excuse for this terrible whine I and others are having. I HIGHLY recommend a 144hz monitor. Future Improvements/upgrades: Rubber fan mounts, basic speakers, more ram (for a total of 16gb), replace GPU.

144hz is love. 144hz is life. I like to submit unfinished posts then do about 20 edits. I like the Night Theme too.

Wonder how many people were yelled at during commercial break?

Eh they probably laughed it off. Not a huge deal.

This is no ones but the broadcasters fault. They let a mission critical broadcast machine be in a position where this could happen.

Yeah i doubt that. Someone will be in trouble for this.

Although it could be prevented, it's not necessarily their fault. Unless it was a consistent mistake, typically the appropriate reaction is to make sure they don't do it again. If they are mistreated and punished for a technical mistake from something nearly out of their control, then they need to rethink working there.

It is completely in their control to sort thins out, this campaign has been going on for over a year now. I work in broadcasting and know for a fact that you do not just think oh it will be OK when working in live TV

Tell me again, how are there no drawbacks to upgrading to an operating system that gives you almost zero control?

You know, unless you take steps that even people in enterprise grade environments deem excessive (apparently)

Ketchup is better than mustard.

GUI is better than Command Line Interface.

Dubs are better than subs

I've hidden the posts arguing about British English vs. American English. If you want to debate such a subject please make a new topic for it; and please keep it more civil than it was here. Some of those hidden comments were unnecessarily aggressive / offensive.

Intentionally antagonising fellow members of this site is not acceptable, and neither is attacking people - for any reason. If you take exception to a comment or topic posted by a user please report it to the moderator team and we will take care of it. If any more arguing like this occurs in this thread, it will be permanently locked.

Keep it on topic, and keep it friendly please. :)
