Fatal Error during Telnet installation

I thought of enabling Telnet on my PC (Windows 7 Ultimate SP1), but whether I use GUI or CMD, I get a 'Fatal Error' message box, stating that the installation was unsuccessful - very informative! Umm... I could do with some help right now... ANYONE???

Thats strange, there was no such trouble for me....Try restarting...is there an update pending?

Just use Putty, it does telnet as well.

I don't update at all - father doesn't understand the necessity, and hence doesn't permit me to do so... (I've had enough of non-techies... )

I prefer to use the built-in utilities, so I'm sorry but could you suggest another solution?

I meant windows updates, surely non techies wouldnt know how to stop that  

 

Anyway try restarting...you did go to turn windows features on and off right?

Here's the bad part - pirated windows 7... That's why I don't update Windows. The minute you update this copy of windows, it screams "Windows is not genuine" every time you open notepad, control panel, and every integrated windows features, and at startup. We all use the same PC at home, so they're sure to find out that I've re-enabled updates. Anyway, father thinks that Pirated Windows will bring the cops to our doorstep!

 

And I did go to Turn Windows features on and off and checked "Telnet Client", and clicked OK. A small dialog box popped up saying "Installing the requested features" or something like that, and at the very end, the 'Fatal Error' thing pops up.

Even pirated win7 got the update to w10...and if cops actually cared about that, they are going to have a tough time ....

 

Is windows activated?

 

Also check your internet connection..reset it if necessary and try again.....

Windows is activated... but the message is still showing all the time.

maybe do a reinstall of windows. I dont know, im out of ideas.

OK, but I'll look for other solutions before this drastic step - I don't have Windows 7 installation media!!!
