[Microsoft Store (online and offline) - US and Canada]: Buy a Lumia 950 XL get a 950 for free!

GoodBytes

Until May 1st, 2016, if you are in Canada or the U.S, if you buy a Lumia 950 XL, you get for free a Lumia 950 (non-XL).

The Lumia 950 and 950 XL shares the same identical camera that is best smart phone camera on the market. More or less as good (depending on what you do, it wins by a bit or looses by a bit) as the new Samsung Galaxy S7 phone.

So if yourself, and someone else doesn't care about apps, and just want an easy to use, Windows 10 like experience, with performance and currently excellent smartphone camera (in comparison), then this can be an interesting deal. You can maybe split the cost of the 950 XL or something.

The Lumia 950 and  950 XL specs are identical, beside screen size (resolution is the same at : 2560x1440), and CPU. The Lumia 950 XL is powered by a Snapdraggon 810 (8 core CPU) with a heatsink to avoid throttling issue of the CPU, and the 950 has a 6 core variant (cooler operating, so no heatsink), and battery size, but battery life is similar. Both features 3 GB of RAM, USB 3.0 Type-C connector, Continuum feature, Windows Hello - Iris Scanner, and dedicated camera 2-step button (focus / take picture, like a normal camera) for quick shots.

Personally, if would like to see the price of the Lumia 950 off the Lumia 950 XL. Heck, even if you hate the OS, for ~150$ you have an MP3/FLAC player, and digital camera.

That's actually very good and you can sell the other one if you want afterwards and get profit!

Very true! Guys! Didn't think about it when I saw it.

It seems to have good resale value (considering all things) if the phone is packed sealed.

Forgot to mention, free shipping and free returns for Microsoft store online. You also have Office 365 for 1 year for free (Personal). This offer is for all Lumia 950 / 950 XL current and new (current users gets it from the Lumia Offer app that will be pre-installed on the phone), offer ends in end of July if I am not mistaken.

That is not true. For a while every now and then retailers and MS Stores has specials.

The last offer that the U.S / Canada had on those phones was the the Lumia 950 XL where you had the Continuum display dock for free if you pre-order the phone (I think the U.K and maybe a few other regions also had it), or if you got it in the early few months of release.

I made this purchase earlier this morning. I can't wait.

I'll likely sell the 950 as factory sealed if I can and just use the 950 XL.

I currently have a Lumia 830 so this should be a nice upgrade.

People have given these phones unfavorable reviews for the most part but the issue is not the hardware. 95% of the phones issues are purely in the OS software, and that will all get fixed.

Honestly Windows 10 Mobile was not ready when it was launched on these phones, but Microsoft desperately needed new flagships out there, so what can you do I guess?

Since these phones launched 6 months ago Microsoft has released 11 OS updates to it and also firmware updates in addition to that. And, in ~3-4 months it should see the Anniversary update so I feel good about Microsoft's commitment to Windows 10 Mobile OS and these phones. Not to mention that starting with Windows 10 Mobile Microsoft is bypassing carrier approval for OS updates also.

I think the app situation is also going to improve. Just today Facebook announced their new Instagram app which is a direct port of the iOS version so it has all the latest features. The new Facebook and Messenger apps are currently only available on Windows 10 desktop as of today but they stated they are bringing those to Mobile this year also. And other apps have been released/getting announced for Windows 10 Mobile (just check this thread). :P
