Fallout 4 Mods to disable achievements

Well this seems to be a bit disconcerting, if it turns out to be true. News from the Fallout 4 GECK beta test is that modding the game, disables achievements. Hopefully this is a bug or a glitch, but for some reason, I don't expect it to be.

Quote

The news comes from a user on Reddit, according to the user when players install a mod and load a save file, after that any save made will be separated in a new slot. Meaning if you have a character named Jason and you install a mod and load a save, after that if you save the game at any point the save will be saved separately under Jason[Modded] section.

According to the report if you install a mod and start playing the game you will not earn any achievements for your actions and then if you want to earn achievements then you will have to delete the mod completely and then load the save prior to installing the mod.

According to the report beta testers are apparently not happy with this and Bethesda has not yet commented on this restriction. When an author makes a mod the general consensus for him is that he does not want players to disable his/her mod. There were a lot of mods in the past that fixed broken quests, now if a user installs a mod to fix a quest then he/she can`t get any achievements.

Personally, I find myself hoping that this is either some kind of bug, or applies only to consoles (if it turns out to be true). Why on earth would they do this? It's not like Fallout achievements are hard to get anyway.

I hope thats just a bug because if its not that would be worse than rockstar and they are one of the strictest companies for mods that i know of.

Several games already have this like the saints row series if you enable cheats it will disable acheivements and if you are in multiplayer then the other person will also have the acheivements disabled.

Personally, I find myself not caring.

If it's a bug it should get fixed. Though knowing bethesda, they'll leave it for the community to fix.

If it's intentional there will be mods that re-enable achievements.

Mods aren't necessarily cheats though. Adding new radio stations, or player customization such as hair or outfits(not armour) aren't cheating. Hell there are even unofficial patches that fix things bethesda missed.

I understand why they would want to - it makes sense actually.  Obviously there could be mods that make it much easier to get achievements so if they are trying to keep them legit, it makes sense they would lock them down when using mods.

Not that I like the idea, but it does make sense.  In fact, there is another game that works like this already: Cities Skylines.  If you enable mods, you won't get achievements for cities you play with them on.  Of course, there is a mod to reenable achievements (xD the irony!) but this isn't a new concept.

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

I was going to say it, but @CyanideInsanity already said it.

Mods aren't cheating unless you install mods made to be cheats. Consider mods that expand and fix the settlement aspect of Fallout 4, they aren't cheating. They're just adding more content to the game.

I just facepalmed..

Like, why would you want to enable this? You're just gonna make it so the 1.5% of people in this world who still care about achievements either don't install mods or will not bother with the achievements anymore.

Yes mods aren't necessarily cheats, but with mods you cant differentiate between what mod is cheating, like one hit kill weapons, or flying mods or not, so grouping them all up and blocking them is the only way to deal with the issue.

Which, to be frank, is quite stupid. I can understand disabling them with ingame cheats, like actual cheats from a bonus menu, but not with mods. Its honestly a bit useless in the end since there are steam achievement unlockers out and about.

Well ain't that a load of bull from Beth.

Oh well, time to load up Steam Achievement Manager then.

If I do the work to get an achievement, regardless of whether not I have a modded save, it should reflect that.

ok so 1 its just achivements not the end of the world or paid mods or anything like that and 2 its not the only game to do that and its easy to see why too. whilst some people dont mod to cheat so to speak, many do, even if they dont really go OTT

Don't care at all about this. Achievements don't mean squat nowadays, don't know why they keep bothering with them.

Very true, but it still seems kind of stupid to do this.

If achievements mean nothing, which......they don't mean anything, then why bother doing this at all? I'm beginning to suspect they're going to do something shitty with the GECK. Like limiting it to death so that any and every mod made with it can work on console or something.

And of course, Paid Mods looms in the background.

I doubt it, I think bethesda would want to keep their fans, and if anything, they would just limit console mods, I believe in an interview with a microsoft or bethesda representitve (I forget) I think they said there would be all mods available on console, except they would all have to go through a greenlight type phase, taking out porn mods and stuff like that, I think it'll be kinda how the apple store apps work

Why bother taking out the porn mods? You can look up porn via the browser on a console....

Yea, doesn't make much sense to me, but I think its because they might have to change the rating to AO if they would allow that on consoles
