People in the Obama administration are pushing to make carrier unlocking mandatory so that people can easily switch between cell phone service providers.

 

The administration has filed a petition with the FCC to make this happen.

Besides the fact that phones will rise in price im fine with it.

If it goes through and the FCC requires phone unlocks then you are right, prices will probably go up.

 

That is a downside, but at least people will be somewhat free with the phones that they purchase.
