despite VideoCardz "analysis", AMD looks like will have some rebrands in 4xx series - so far, speculation about rebrands is reduced to mobile type GPUs

 

if we look at the roadmap, it seems like AMD won't be releasing any HBM2 videocards until 2017 with Vega GPUs

as for Navi?! next gen memory?! what does that even mean 

 

if information is to be trusted, Polaris GPUs will have native HDMI 2.0 support - no more DP dongles

I don't see any new information here... And it was pretty obvious we would see a Fury replacement since when they demoed Polaris 10 at Capsaicin it performed on par with the Fury X, so we were assuming it would be as good if not better than it.... Not much to be learned here in my opinion.

 

EDIT: Yeah... we already knew Polaris will be GDDR5 and Vega will be HBM2, and Navi will have "next-gen memory." This is old news just in a different format. I wouldn't be surprised if Video Cardz created this on their own and said it was a leak to get publicity.

AMD nor NVIDIA generally include mobile GPU's in these particular roadmaps. Mobile series almost always features rebrands, and is often 1 or 2 generations behind. Look at NVIDIA, granted they've had a long time to get Maxwell mobile rolling, but they still have rebrands in their mobile lineup.

 

But yeah, as others have said, I don't see any new information here. This graph is still pretty vague - but I'm counting on AMD keeping the rebrands to a minimum on the Desktop side of things.

True, my bad, it didn't say that in the article. However, they are essentially inferring that they got their hands on this roadmap that probably wasn't meant to be publicized since AMD didn't ever directly release this roadmap. That basically constitutes as a leak, which is why I said so.

Roadmap is available at amd website. And why was this roadmap worth posting? It shows which segments new Polaris GPUs are targeting.

I only expect to see them on entry level cards which no one should be buying anyway.

What's worth noting that likely for Christmas mid range GPU in laptops could already be Polaris based. Depending on Pascal roadmap we may also get GDDR5 mobile nvidia chips with most powerful AMD and nVidias coming Q1 2017. So things like GTX970m and GTX960m will loose price/performance value soon, while GTX980m and up will be "old gen" within a year from now easily.
 

Bad time for gaming laptops? But hey, they will try to sell them ASAP when new how GPUs arrive.

K so I've been incredibly inactive over the past 2+ yrs or so here, never get a chance to post early now.

 

Luckily I made it early this time, and I want to point out at least a few likelihoods that people won't know about until release:

 

- Polaris 10 is the older arch, developed during Fiji (this goes against everything people have been told)

- Polaris 11 is the power-hungry

- Polaris 10 is the lower wattage

 

P10: 470 480 490 / TDP 90-220W

P11: 440 450 460 / TDP <70W

Vega: 490X/480X/Flagship "Radeon Pro" across-the-board HBM2

Navi: 500-series / Nextgen memory(?) + power efficiency scaling that people expect currently

 

Half-guesses, you could say. I've been following all news and what I've said seems likely if I remember things correctly, but it's nothing more than guessing until release. This time around I think a lot of "leaks" aren't actually real, or they're heavily fabricated (to the point where they're unbelievable/impossible). As in none of it is worth listening to because I've seen some really stupid numbers that suggest the 470 and below would have a *minimum* of +25-50% overall efficiency, and these will be the absolute most worthless cards to buy as soon as they launch until ~1.5 yrs from now with Navi being named some time ago.

 

WCCFtech posts like 2 no-fluff, non-leak related blogs and this forum kisses their feet. You see my post and it has as much or more validity to it without posting sources than anything videocardz/etc.leak  sources (all connected to eachother), so people should probably stop shitting the bed every time something is submitted.

 

Edit: To me, 400 series is equivalent to the climb before Maxwell that NVidia experienced, while Navi is their Maxwell 2. This means Vega will be powerhouses if NVidia can't match, Polaris will be overrated, and Navi will absolutely revolutionize parts of the tech industry no matter what AMD does.

 

Aside from that?... It's official, guys. The race to Moore's Law's wall on GPU dies is coming right this second.

the only new thing with @zMeuls post is that there hasnt been a AMD slide looking exactly like that before now.

All the info however has been known for 3+ months

AMD already revealed that there are two chips and that 11 is the small, and 10 is the bigger, including some reviews about it. There are even precise lists of chips to be released as those (at least PCI ids) had to be added to drivers, like the Linux driver.

Man.. Every Navi-related post has been indicative of a roadmap that exists in this manner. It's not even worth posting in this subforum but guys here allow rumors to be posted in the news section, so it's worth talking about regardless. If only to help people understand what's actually happening even if it's nothing.

 

The main body isn't telling of anything and nothing I've said rules out the majority of leaks. Only thing that is 'current' with 'news' is that there have been leaks for months and all of them contradict one-another, but none of the leaks are sourced nor are they updated after conflicting info comes to surface. Anyone can guess memory specs, TDP (Zomg, 100W Fury!), feature count,... I mean, Anandtech does it. It's very easy to do because graphics cards are insanely linear in every way. But I'll be damned if the 480/X is ~27% faster than an R9 Fury in raw compute. Or that an R9 490 is twice as fast as an R9 390 at +/- the same specs.

 

Whole point is that.. News doesn't matter. Like.. At all. The best you can do is try to scrutinize an OP and help people understand that literally nothing is different still. Wait til mid May for your real news.

I still hold to the belief that AMD is splitting the 400 series between the Polaris and Vega chips. Polaris is after all only 2 chips, compared to the 7000 series which launched with 4 new 28nm chips and 3 re branded 40nm chips.

 

Polaris 11, replacing the Pitcairn chip = 470

Polaris 10, Replacing the Tonga chip = 480

Vega 11, Replacing the Hawaii chip = 490

Vega 10, Replacing the Fiji chip = New Fury lineup

I'm looking forward to HBM2 flagship. This lineup looks interesting and I'm still quite interested in seeing Polaris though I'm aiming to go for Vega at time. 16GB HBM2

I doubt we will see any rebrands above x50 series. And honestly who cares about such low end cards? NVidia rebrands those too.

 

What's interesting to me in this roadmap is Polaris versus Vega. I thought Vega was Greenland and thus a replacement to Fiji, i.e. their high end card. This looks to not be the issue as the slide makes it look like Polaris 10 will replace Fiji as well. Furthermore it looks like Vega will be an entire line of products with HBM.

 

Of course this might just be due to the way they designed the slide. Maybe my earlier understanding is the correct one, but this provides an alternative.

 

Either way, 14nm FF ftw, but the lack of HBM is a bit sad.

I can only imagine that zMeul has a tsundere relationship with AMD. No matter how much 'hate' he has, he always likes to talk about it.
