I'm looking to teach myself some basic programming skills.  I have a very small amount of C experience, as I had to take a programming course for my Electrical Engineering major (I never finished it).

I've been looking into it again lately and it's something I really want to try to learn.

Any advice on which languages to start with/progress through?

I started on C# and I love it. It is way better than Python and is a programming language that is very useful and versatile.

After that then try C++ but first look at C# and get comfortable with it.

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.

Maybe this could help you.

I personally started with java since it was what my school was teaching me at the time and it really helped me to understand Object-oriented languages and thankfully after that jumping onto another language like C# wasn't hard at all. Python isn't difficult to grasp and it will be a good kickstarter for learning code logic.
