Drone hits BA Plane at Heathrow airport.

226477_1454181668

Drones strike again, but this time they actually attack.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-36067591

This is just bad for people who want to enjoy drones free from too much red tape.

But the real Concern is if any people were injured. Thankfully not. Some music when you read the article.

A plane approaching Heathrow Airport is believed to have hit a drone before it landed safely, the Metropolitan Police has said.

The British Airways flightarrow-10x10.png from Geneva was hit as it approached the London airport at about 12:50 BST with 132 passengers and five crew on board.

After landing, the pilot reported an object - believed to be a drone - had struck the front of the Airbus A320.

Aviation police based at Heathrow have launched an investigation.

This is just bad for the entire industry.

Technically a quadcopter without any assisting software is not a drone. Unassisted quadcopters are also much harder to fly, so ppl cant just buy one and crash it into a plane, you have to learn to fly it.

We've now got three different subjects going on, an Asian fox and motorbike fetish, two guys talking about Norway invasions and then some other people talking about body building... This thread is turning into a free for all fetish infested Norwegian circle jerk.

I really am wondering if anti-drone Laser[correction] systems will be developed for non-military use simply because of airports.

Lets get this straight, in most of the world, you will never have an effective ban on drones/rc anything. The stuff is too easy to find/make/already everywhere. It's not rocket science. Also the legal work would be an absolute bitch considering there is a very well established RC model-aircraft industry that would suffer needlessly. Plus a substantial amount of the aviation industry likes drones/rc. I haven't heard anyone who does anything to do with actually flying (pilots, aircraft maintenance, etc.) argue for anything of the sort.

The only thing I can think of that would work would be 'turrets' that can kill the electrical systems on these so noobs can't f*ck sh*t up. Small enough they don't pose a risk to the real aircraft, big enough that any typical rc/drone would get fried.

Then again since when are those in charge of legislature even remotely reasonable these days.

-reason for edit-

To fix my comment about EMPs in an airport when I should have said lasers. Can I blame finals on this? :P

Quick thoughts on system: I7 is extremely quick and I'm glad I spent the extra for hyper-threading. I regret my decision to get the GTX 970, it has horrible coil whine. There isn't any excuse for this terrible whine I and others are having. I HIGHLY recommend a 144hz monitor. Future Improvements/upgrades: Rubber fan mounts, basic speakers, more ram (for a total of 16gb), replace GPU.

The restrictions already in place in the UK are quite strict tbh. But the regulations for Drones is something that will be looked at, as more and more people use them non-commercially. A ban is out of the question, they're far too useful for that. But I suspect heavy regulation will happen, lets face it, we heavily regulate (as opposed to ban) the use of things that are more dangerous than drones, cars being the prime example. Most people accept those restrictions, mainly because it minimizes the risk from people who don't know what the fuck they are doing.

I fail how this would cause more problems than sh*tty legislature that accomplishes nothing while wasting tax dollars and letting drones continue to invade airport airspace. The tech is there in the military. It's being worked on right now as we speak for the civilian world.

Fly truffet av drone i London

Flights hit by drone in London

An investigation has been launched after a drone slammed into a plane just before it landed at Heathrow Airport in London, writes BBC News. British Airways plane, which arrived from Geneva on Sunday morning, had no trouble to land despite the disturbance.

Article from The Guardian

Police are investigating a pilot’s claim that his plane was struck by a drone as it approached Heathrow airport.

The Metropolitan police said they were contacted on Sunday afternoon by the pilot, who landed the plane safely at Terminal 5. No one has been arrested, officers said.

The flight, BA727, was coming in to London from Geneva, carrying 132 passengers and five crew.

British Airways said the Airbus A320 had been examined by engineers and cleared to take off for its next flight after the incident.

Quote

After that incident, Landells had discussed the possibility of engine failure in the event of a drone striking aplane. “You end up with very high-velocity bits of metal going anywhere they like. That could be through fuel tanks, through hydraulic lines and even into the cabin,” he said.

“Losing the engine is not going to cause an aircraft to crash because they are designed to fly with one engine down. But an uncontained engine failure is going to be different every time. That could be very serious indeed.”

“The first thing we want to do is get a drone or at least the critical parts of a drone flying at a windscreen of an aircraft. The indications so far with computer modelling are that you’ll end up with penetration of a windscreen.

“One possibility is that the battery smashes the windscreen and the inside layer of the windscreen shatters and you end up with a lot of glass in the cockpit, probably moving at quite high speed.

“As a pilot, I don’t want to be sitting there when that’s going on.”

There isn't any evidence it happened in the first place. 2 times drones were within 25y range.

One time a pilot claim the plane were hit but they dont know if its the case.

Right, but not guns or cars, because those are not in any way dangerous in the wrong hands.

Honestly the best civilian use of a drone I think is those heavier duty drones that are set up to carry a DSLR for Arial photography...

Since the FAA mandated drones over 1.5 lbs have to get an N number I wonder if the FAA will also mandate them to have a transponder and a couple other communications stuff to let aircraft and ATC know that there is a civilian drone near their airspace. Though I know this happened in the UK, but I wouldn't be surprised if the US governing body on flight/aircraft regulations responded.

Of course they are, but so are a lot of things besides cars, and guns.

Tbh cars are fine because most people don't intend on hurting people with their car. People buy a gun with the intent of possibly needing to hurt someone though justify it because that someone was trying to hurt them.

Drones, I'm not sure why someone would want a drone other than for Arial photography.
