Kies Flashing Questions

Recommended Posts

Posted · Original PosterOP

I'm coming to a Samsung GS6 from Xperia devices.

From what I understand, Kies is a tool similar to Flashtool; its for flashing official firmwares for downgrades or region locked updates without voiding warranty/tripping KNOX.
My device is a now unlocked formerly Bell SM-G920W8 (Canadian version) S6. I am on Wind mobile, and they have a Marshmallow firmware out for the SM-G920W8 which I can download from Sammobile as a zip.

Can I/how would I flash it without tripping KNOX? Would it be like Xperia flashtool wherein it is treated like a regular update or would it be impossible without using ODIN (which I've used devices before, but I didn't care about warranty).

I would love to just completely get rid of TouchWiz and flash a ROM I prefer, but I can't find any good ones with Marshmallow and support for my variant of the S6. I am using AOKP on my Tab S 8.4 and it's really good for an unofficial port, but I don't use the tablet daily and don't need reliability on it as much as I do for my phone.

im not sure on the newer phones but there is a program the will actually reset the counter so you can send it in for warranty, it's on skipsoft.net, when i first starting flashing phones it was one of my main tools for rooting, flashing roms, installing twrp etc. he used to always be on xda developers. you could try and research into his all in one software, i stopped buying samsung cause i just couldnt afford it anymore so idk if the triangle away function works on the newer phones

if i post a link to amazon try to use the LTT affiliate code to help the channel http://www.amazon.com/?_encoding=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&linkCode=ur2&tag=linustechtips-20

I'll definitely check it out, but I doubt it still works on new devices, as no one I've seen on XDA ever mentioned it. Thanks for the suggestion.
