Coolant question

Go to solution Solved by DrainDoc,

I think it is more do to evaporation then bleeding air at this point. Hard to believe that air

is still bleeding after almost a year of operation.

Between heating and cooling, (expansion and contraction).......evaporation seems

most likely. Your talking about a very minuet amount of coolant that is being lost.

If your having to refill,(lets say half a cup each time)....you may have a issue somewhere.

Even so, keep a sharp eye out for leaks.

Hi there guys,

I have a question about Water Cooling in general.

Ive been running my first ever watercooling loop for awhile now, about 10 months now, and everything has been working fine.

Im running almost the Raystorm RX kit from XSPC but I bought the parts alone because I got some Corsair Fans and Bitspower white compression fittings. So Raystorm CPU block, XSPC RX360, D5 pump/res from XSPC, com 1/2 inch tubing and using Mayhems Pastel Blue Berry coolant.

Now something I've notice since I have the loop.

My coolant keeps going down with time, like it has been wasted somewhere. Its nothing major, Im talking about really small quantities and Im 99% sure there is no leak unless the fittings got loose with time which I really doubt it. Is like refilling 1cm of the res every 3 months more a less.

Is that normal?

Thanks,

Ralms.

It's air bleeding out of the system, there will be micro bubbles in the res/blocks etc that are released over time. also it is to be expected that the coolant will expand when running the system hot and will shrink back down when the system is cold.

Pretty much what JordanMac said. But 10 months is quite a while for air to still be bleeding.

When you assembled the loop did you properly clean the rads and blocks before you assembled the loop? the build up in some components, particularly rads once you first get them can actually cause air to get trapped in the loop, this may be what your experiencing.

Also if you run a loop for too long your tubing and coolant can also degrade and have the same effect.

I'ld probably clean out the loop and replace your tubing just to be certain though :)

Air bleeding it isn't. I use my PC so many hours a day so that has stopped for sure.

That normally doesn't happen with this loop that I have noticed. But again, I use my pc 12/16 hours a day so hard to notice, only when Im waking up and I barely can open my eyes xD

The loop was only assembled once when I installed it when I bought it, so all brand new parts. I wash them all with water, etc so is not that either. Anyway take in account what is my res and the amount Im talking about.

I got the same scenario as well, I personally think it's just the loop is completely out of air bubbles though in my case.

I can't rly think that you'd be losing a ton of coolant from evaporation :o

Check out the build: Used to be Obot, now Lilith

Shameless: Me

Hmm, I don't know it will slowly evaporate but not that fast and air bubble should be gone buy now. One other thing could be that maybe due is breaking down and that the liquid is getting thinner and taking up less space. As long at it is not leaking I would not worry about it too much.
