Dark Souls 3 requirements and settings revealed (Updated)

Q6puaLw.jpeg

Update: The requirements have been revised and are listed below the previous requirements.

The PC Dark Souls 3 graphical options menu and minimum and recommend spec has been revealed.

On the settings side, the variety of settings offered seems a bit limited (No FOV sliders to keep TotalBiscuit happy :D), but at least they are conventionally basic:

Quote

In the games graphical option menu we can see that there are graphical options for  textures, shadow quality, ambient occlusion, depth of field, motion blur, lighting, effects, reflection, water surface and shader quality. Sadly the only AA option in the game is AA On or AA Off, so at this time we cannot confirm what type of AA is used by the game, though it is likely to be FXAA.

In terms of settings, they seem to surprisingly lowish with the exception of RAM.

Quote

The game will require 8GB of RAM to play and a 64-bit OS, which is a significant leap from previous games in the franchise. On the GPU side things are a little bit more reasonable, requiring a HD 6870 or a GTX 465 as it's minimum, "you died" specs and a GTX 750 or an HD 7850 in the games recommended "You Died, But That's a Pretty Nice PC You've Got There" spec

(Requirements have been revised,  check below for the update)

Quote

The "You Died" spec:

  • OS: Windows 7 SP1 64bit, Windows 8.1 64bit Windows 10 64bit

Generally it's the first-person games without FOV adjustments that attract his ire. That should attract everyone's ire.

There tends to be a wider range of tolerable settings in third-person games, and if that's the biggest sacrifice we end up making to get a good Souls port on PC, great. There's often ways to hack in a different FOV in most games anyway.

Dark Souls games have never been particularly demanding. Can run the first game at 720p60 on my HD4600.

I ran D2 at 8k just for lels and still got over 60FPS.

Lol. IKR. Running at 4k with DSR doesn't even wake up my 980. 4k DSR definitely looks better than at native 1080p though. Image quality is sharper and no jaggies. ;)

Why motion blur? Who likes motion blur in games? I'm genuinely curious. First thing I turn off in every game.

Everything else looks fine in the settings. Wasn't expecting anything more. If the AA option doesn't quite take care of all the pixeled edges, just use DSR and run it at 1440 or 4k. Don't think this is going to be too much more demanding than DS2.

I turn it off in most games but some that are atmospheric/cinematic don't look that bad with it.

I think it's more realistic to think that the recommended spec is 750Ti rather than 750 and that it was a typo. According to tomshardware's hierarchy, those are only one tier apart, where the 7850 is tiered as similar performing to a 660 or 570.

Either way those are pretty low-ish recommended specs on the graphics side, considering the 750Ti costs ~110$ nowadays. On the other hand i7 2600 like performance is found on chips like overclocked i5s which start at 200$.

I'll be waiting for benchmarks to show up.

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

The new technique made by Epic Games is actually really good, if you download the Boy with Kite demo (4GB HDD size and a powerful PC required), you can see their motion blur is not based on camera movement like 99% of current motion blur, it makes animation smoother as it is based on the physical model instead of just blending/blurring two frames together.

 I could barely get 27FPS with a i7 6700K + R9 290 though.

When I make a post, unless I am the original poster or ask for a reply, don't bother replying or quoting me because I don't read them.
