What is a good amp to get? Preferably something that doesn't take up much space and comes in black.

O2 amp

"You can't power your headphones" seems like some unclear wording, maybe say something like your headphones don't get loud enough?

Power is also that the headphones might sound muddy even tho you can get them loud but I will add your headphones don't get loud enough

Okay guys I have seen a lot of people on here is starting to wanting to buy amps and dacs and let me just explain to you guys why you need one and why you dont need one. This is going to be very basic and generalised.

Reasons to get a DAC.

1. Noise in your sound

2. Your onboard makes the sound warm or cold sounding

3. Over all low quality sound coming from your onboard

4. Can look nice

Reasons to NOT get a DAC.

1. No noise.

2. No coloring in your onboard.

3. You already have transparent sound. ( kinda the same as Nr. 2)

4. Takes up space.

Reasons to get a AMP.

1. You cant power your headphones. (your headphones don't get loud enough)

2. Your headphones sound muddy only at that pc (kinda the same as Nr. 1)

3. Can look nice.

4. You want to try tube sound.

Reasons to NOT get a AMP.

1. You can power your headphones.

2. Takes up space.

Most motherboards on the market to day can power 90%-95% of all the headphones on the market. A dac and amp will not make your headphones better if you already have transparent sound and they are powered properly.

Save the money and get better headphones if you are unhappy by the sound you have in your headphones.

Ohm does not say if your headphones are hard to drive or not.

If you need an amp or dac look at products from Schiit they are very good and fairly priced.

If you're aiming this at newbies, you probably want to explain the jargon (bolded).

okay thanks later to day I will explain the different things. This is aimed at newbies and those who are not 100% on wether they should get an amp and an dac or not. I am trying to keep it simple so everyone can understand it.

Honestly it's not newbies asking if they need an amp/dac that annoys me.  It's people who recommend them despite being a waste of money for the headphones that the newbie is asking about.

Yes, this is exactly the kind of info that should be a sticky or integrated into the FAQs. There is a lot of misinformation out there in the audiophile space when it comes to these things. This post / guide makes it clear and simple. Listen to your gear and make decisions based on what your ears tell you!

yeah true I have never really understood the people, who keeps recommending amps and dacs even though we try to explain to them, why a dac and amp would be a waste of money.

well lets say I want to waste some money for a quality listening experience what would be my next step? well I feel this post covers the basics reasons for needing a amp or dac it would be cool if you included some more detailed information for people who haven't even gotten started. I feel this is just targeted to the people who have headphones already. make this a super post with lots of info and im sure it will get a tack on the board at some point its still a little short.

Well you should always get the headphones before you get an amp and a dac and amp combo will not make the quality better since most motherboards are transparent when it comes to sound. The best way to get a higher quality experience is by getting better headphones.
You want me to make a list about what amps and dacs to get and what you should do before deciding to get an amp or an amp and dac combo?
